How fair it is to make it more of an obligation to have a perfectly sculpted body? It doesn't sound fair at all, right? And yes, bodyshaming ain't a joke anymore. We will forever be on this emotional roller coaster of body obsessions unless and until we consciously decide to stop this intense shit.
"Why can't you eat some more and grow up some muscles?"is that one tiresome advice I have overheard all these years. And it doesn't end here as I could see the same person who questioned me, go on questioning chubby people too. Here comes the part"hey why can't you eat a bit less and exercise more? You seem to have gained so much weight". They go on with their lame questions and advises as though gaining and loosing weight is a simple math to solve. Even it were a simple math, who are they to comment on our bodytypes?
The 'they' I have mentioned above will refer to each one of us. Wondering what? Yes, each one of us. As they say "what goes around comes around", each one of us happens to be a bodyshamer one time and to be bodyshamed the other time.
Giving my own example on this, I used to be the one making fun of my friend's huge tummies and their extra muscles. I used these as an vindictive act everytime when my friends came up commenting on my thin body type. Though I wasn't the first to initiate the commenting, now I knew it to be a wrong way to make them realise things. And now I have started working on it consiously not to comment or advise others on their bodytypes.
Its not always about the curves of a woman. Flat chested men too get to be bodyshamed. But trust me their curves and abs have nothing to do with their womanhood and manhood. A flat chested man would be man enough as equally as a man with abs and well trained muscles. A skinny or a fluffy woman would be woman enough to lead her life as a women with a perfect figure would.
"Flawed is not our body
Flawed is the way we look at it"
After all what is your intention behind the criticism? Do you ever want them to starve to death or to keep eating up till they choke? The one whom you think to be totally careless of their health, might be having some medical issues like thyroid disorders, PCOD, genetic dispositions which you might be totally unaware of. So if your not the one to render them a solution, better not sabotage their self esteem with your kind of ideal body measurements. Kindly do not add up to the burning flame.
Stop weighing one's worth based on their body figure. Let a person feel comfortable in their own skin irrespective of their body type. Let them breath over it peacefully.
Learn to look beyond boobs, curves, abs and muscles. There exist so much to look for that makes one more of a person. Look into their sheer confidence, intelligence, kindness and so on...
