Mountains attract me, but sometimes they seem like mysteries.  It does not know how many variations it contains in itself.  Glaciers are also one of those mysteries.  Khatling Glacier located in the Tehri district is one of them, which is my favorite glacier.

So, thought why not travel this time to explore it?  Khatling Glacier located in Ghansali tehsil is one of the five major glaciers of Uttarakhand.  Apart from this, Gomukh is in the first place, Milam in second, Pindari in third, and Namik in fourth place.

Being situated at a great height from the beach, this glacier remains the center of attraction for trekkers.  Every year hundreds of tourists visit this place.  It is very easy to reach this place from Delhi or any other part of the country.  To reach this place, one has to reach Tehri, 75 km from Rishikesh.

There is a village called Dhuttu at a distance of 20 km from Tehri.  From this place, the trek to Bhil Sarovar starts.  Two places named Rih and Gangi come at a distance of 10-10 km.  The trekkers walk along the banks of the Bhil Ganga river beyond Gangi to reach the Khatling Glacier.  Near the Khatling glacier, there is a giant named Bhil Sarovar.

There is a lake.  This lake is the source of the Bhilangana River, which is considered a tributary of the Bhagirathi.  This Khatling glacier originates from Tehri and meets Bhagirathi at Ganesh Prayag.  The name of Medganga, Dudhganga, Balganga comes in the tributaries of Bhilangana, but the most important river is Balganga.

It also has a tributary, which is known as Dharma Ganga.  It joins Bal Ganga at Budha Kedar.  Khatling Glacier is known for its high, serene, and beautiful hills.  Due to the source of the Bhilangana river, the Khatling Glacier in the Garhwal Himalayas is a very important glacier.

Surrounding the glacier are several thick snow peaks of the Himalayas, which are known as Join Group, Spistal Princess, Barta Kaur, Kirti Stambh, and Meru.  Those who want to visit this place must know that the trek to Khatling Glacier starts from Dhutu.  A PWD Inspection House and a Tourist Rest House are available at Dhuttu for accommodation.

The trekkers stay at one of these two places, otherwise, they camp by putting up their own tents.  We were also staying at the tourist rest house so that we can start trekking early in the morning.  Other important places on this track are the caves of Rih, Gangi, Kalyani, and Bhima.

Tourist rest houses are also available at Rih and Gangi.  Gangi is the remote last village, after which there are no facilities of any kind.  In the next track, you have to make your own arrangements.

Masad Tal is 7 km away from here.  Vasuki Tal is further in this route, from where one goes to Kedarnath.  This track passes through the small villages of Garhwal and the forests of Kherson, which proves to be thrilling and informative.
