Is Blogging a stable career choice? Can I earn enough with blogging as a career or is it only good as a sideline? If yes, then how can I earn through blogging? If these are the questions that come to your mind when you think of blogging, you are at the right place.

However, before diving into the blog, I would like to remind you that it’s going to be a big blog that covers various aspects of blogging in as few words as possible. If you do read further, make sure to read it till the end!

Being a Content Writer requires me to have complete knowledge of blogging. Additionally, I did take some steps to understand how I can earn through blogging with research and course modules. So, in this blog, I will present you with a simple, straightforward guide on how everyone can earn from Blogging.

What is Blogging?

Before getting to the main topic, let’s tackle a basic question first. What is blogging? Channeling the knowledge you possess into words on a blogging platform is reckoned as blogging. Blogging knows no limits. You can blog about endless topics like sports, news, technology, movies, reviews, how-to blogs, positivity, motivational, educational, financial, and many more. There’s simply no end to the topics you can blog about. And that’s what truly makes Blogging an exciting task.

Basic Skills You need to write a Blog

Here’s a simple checklist of skills you need to master before you begin Blogging:

  • Tone- It’s the way you write that determines whether a person is likely to stay or leave. You need to keep your tone in terms of your Target Audience. For eg. If you are writing for a client, you need to keep it professional. However, if you are writing your own personal blog, you can keep the tone friendly and inviting. It all depends upon the purpose of the blog. However, you must keep it engaging at all times to keep your readers interested.
  • Grammar- Grammatical errors, in simple words, make you seem like an amateur. And you wouldn’t want your audience to perceive you like that! The important thing to note is that people judge you based on what you write. So, you need to give them something that impresses them beyond limits.
  • Repetition- Keep your blogs to the point, crisp, and engaging. I stress this point as your target audience would lose interest in reading if you pour down 8 lines of what could have been easily written down in 2.
  • Plagiarism- If you are unfamiliar with this term, it means copying and pasting someone else’s work and getting caught. Plagiarism crafts an inferior image in the mind of your clients as well as the Google Search Engine. But wait! Let’s not get into that at the moment. The only thing you need to know from this point is, “DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. BE UNIQUE”
  • Technical Knowledge- When I started blogging, I struggled even while creating my profile on the Blogger website. That’s because I lacked the technical knowledge. You need to have a basic zest of being a tech junkie to begin blogging. Choosing the perfect platform, signing up, creating a profile, and writing your first blog. It’s definitely going to be a big journey and it certainly will take a lot of time to adapt.

Tools you need to Blog

However, let’s talk about some good news as well. Here are the tools you need to Begin Blogging:

  • A laptop, tablet, or a Smartphone
  • A charger (Slow claps for me)

That’s it! That’s all you need to kickstart your blogging career.

Where to Blog?

Now that’s a question that needs a bit of explanation. There are three sites that I will recommend you blog if you are a beginner and want to earn money from your blogs:

  • Blogger: Blogger is one of the best platforms that has been designed for people who are new to blogging. You won’t need coding knowledge to create blogs. You need to simply create a unique Username, your blog name, and you will be good to go. However, to know the signup process of Blogger in detail, a YouTube tutorial would be the best choice. Once you begin to write blogs and start getting visitors, you can monetize them after a certain read limit. However, to net get your hopes too high, I would just like to inform you that the monetization process takes time to achieve.
  • WordPress: Word Press is kind of an advanced upgrade to blogger. It involves a variety of technical elements as well. However, you can ignore all that and simply create a web presence with a unique user name and blog name. Like blogger, you can earn from your WordPress blogs after you attain a certain readership. I would suggest watching a Youtube tutorial to understand the WordPress Blog signup process better. Word Press also offers paid blogging options in which you get much more than just a blogging space. However, I would like to touch on that topic in a separate article.
  • Candle Monk: Candle Monk is an efficient platform that lets you blog and earn for free. It’s a great place to begin your blogging career. You can learn how to blog with their easy written instructions. Just create a profile and get blogging.

There are other good platforms as well that you can utilize as well for Blogging. One such place is Medium. Search on the web for more free blogging spaces!

Basic Blogging Tips

Here's a few small yet effective tips that add life to your blog:

  • Use Images to make your blog more visually appealing. Since humans comprehend images better than words, try using as many images as possible. However, don't go around overstuffing images!
  • Use small paragraphs- Try to write paragraphs of length 3-4 sentences. Writing bigger paragraphs makes the blog less reader-friendly.
  • Edit, edit, and re-edit- Even professional novelists edit up to 3 drafts till they feel that it's good to go. Similarly, you need to edit your blog to the smallest of changes to ensure that you push out good content for your readers.
  •  Express more in less words- Speaking simply, express more in fewer words to ensure that your reader isn't yawning while reading!

Scope of Blogging in India

It fascinated me, as a young adult that people made a livelihood out of blogging. Yes, it’s true! If you are careful on your journey and gain continuous knowledge on the topic, you will definitely succeed.

What I have written in this blog is a beginner’s guide into blogging as I wouldn’t want to scare anyone by going into the technical details. However, at an estimate, you can easily earn a six-digit figure through blogging.

Moreover, blogging isn’t just restricted to owning your own blog. You can do Freelancing Gigs on platforms such as Fiverr and Upwork. However, with intense competition and plenty of professionals already providing their services, you would need to up your game by a lot to get clients on these platforms.

However, once you catch up with the perfect flow, there’s no stopping you!

I haven't mentioned creating a flow during the writing process, as this too demands a separate blog!

Well, now that you know the basics of blogging, let me just give you a simple brief of a topic that’s a critical part of Blogging: Search Engine Optimization.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization is the process of optimizing your blog, website, etc to rank on Google’s page listings. When you search for something on Google, you mostly get a suitable answer within the first few searches. There are really fewer chances that demand the need to go to the second page.

Well, SEO is what gives you space on the Search Engine. And Google has several factors that it considers before assigning you a rank. Some of these factors include unique content, keywords used, your tone and voice, and the information portrayed through the blog!

Keywords are basically words that you need to focus on in your blog so that when people search for that particular term, it’s your article that pops out first.

Let’s understand this with an example. How did you stumble upon this blog? You had a query in your mind regarding blogging as a career and you must have typed one of the keywords that I focused on like how to earn from blogging, or scope of blogging in India, or blogging as a career, etc. I hope you got it! If not, don’t worry. Keywords and SEO can be confusing at first. It took me almost a year to properly understand it and I still call myself a beginner in SEO.

Well, before you close your eyes and sleep, let’s end this blog. Hope this blog satiated your queries regarding blogging as a career. If you liked this blog, give it a thumbs up, and make sure to follow me for more such blogs!
