With over 1 billion people, 2 million temples, 300,000 mosques, hundreds of palaces, 400 languages and dialects, countless goddesses and gods, and diverse spices, India is an Asian country with cultural, religious, and linguistic diversity that provides visitors with a whirlwind of sensations. Look at this:

1. Cows are revered in India.
The cow is regarded sacred in India's Hindu religion. Each cow, they believe, has 330 million gods and goddesses.

The cow is known as "Kamdhenu" in Hindu mythology, and it fulfils all wants. Its horns represent the ancient Hindu scriptures or "Vedas" and its utterance, the four goals of life, material gain, salvation, and desire.

2 . Hinduism is the world's oldest religion.
Hinduism is India's official religion, and its adherents are skilled in meditation and chanting mantras (words recited in honour of specific deities). And did you know that Hinduism is the world's oldest religion? With documents reaching back to 5500 B.C., Hinduism is the world's oldest and third largest religion, serving over 1 billion people.

3 . The Taj Mahal is not a royal residence.
Another interesting truth about India is that the Taj Mahal is a tomb. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the Taj Mahal in 1632 to honour his late wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is one of the World's Seven Wonders and a breathtaking monument of love and architectural brilliance.

This area was adorned with approximately 28 different types of valuable stones sourced from Tibet, China, Sri Lanka, and sections of India. It is still one of the most prominent Mughal Empire structural wonders, standing in all its beauty and finery in Uttar Pradesh, India.

4 . India was the first country in the world to mine diamonds.
From the 4th century BC to about 1000 years later, India was the world's supply of diamonds. The pristine diamonds were discovered in the Krishna River Delta in Andhra Pradesh.

5 . They are forerunners.
Indians, as one of the world's oldest civilizations, contributed numerous valuable inventions and discoveries to the world. You may not realise it, but chess is one of them. King Balhait commissioned an Indian brahmin to create a game to increase people's brains.

Another example is wireless communication, which was invented by Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose and revolutionised the way we communicate.Wireless radio communication allows people to converse swiftly and send data over long distances without the use of electrical lines or cables.

6 . Vegetarians do not constitute the majority of Indians.
India is the world's most vegetarian country. Nonetheless, nearly 40% of the population is vegetarian. Chicken and fish are popular among Indians. The only reality here is that you won't find beef in any restaurant, and you'll only find buffalo meat in a few places.

7 . India is the world's second largest English-speaking country.
Finally, did you know that India is the world's second largest English-speaking country, according to our list of facts about India? Yes, it is! Apart from the 400 languages and dialects stated previously, English is the major language spoken in the country.
