Let's understand what exactly chronic fatigue Syndrome is.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is an extreme condition of fatigue where an individual feels tired both physically and mentally. The person with CFS cannot do normal physical activities without feeling tired.
For example, making breakfast and talking over a phone call are very difficult tasks for people suffering from CFS. Even walking a few distances makes them feel enormously tried. Sometimes, getting out of bed makes them feel exhausted.
This condition is also referred to as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease. It can happen with anyone including children, adult and an old person. Commonly, it is found in women of age between 40 to 60 years.
CFS can harm health, happiness and productivity.
Although, the exact cause of this condition is still unknown. But experts suggested that it may be because of the problems in the immune system, bacterial infections such as chlamydia pneumonia, hormonal imbalance, mental problems such as stress or emotional trauma and Genetics.Severe fatigue does not improve with rest alone. The person with this condition suffers from loss of memory, headache, joint pain, muscle pain, dizziness and lack of concentration.
There is no specific test dedicated to confirming chronic fatigue syndrome. Sometimes, people with CFS do not look which is why it is difficult for doctors to confirm it instantly.
Doctors try to analyse your medical history including your sleeping patterns. Because it might be due to a sleep disorder. They also conduct an exercise test to check how your heart and lungs function. A lab test is also conducted to test your blood for evidence of diabetes or anaemia which also results in CFS.
Your mental health is also tested to check if you are suffering from any major anxiety or depression related issues which can also cause fatigue.
If we talk about treatment, there is no existing cure till the date. CFS can cause depression or it may be a part of depression. So, antidepressants are used. Dietary changes, acupuncture and yoga are recommended. Cognitive training and exercise are also suggested by some doctors.
A person suffering from this condition needs proper love, care and support from friends and family. If you have anybody suffering from this condition, be kind to them and help them out with their daily tasks.
