In times such as these, when there's a pandemic going outside our very door, when hundreds of people are dying everyday; when our medical infrastructure has fallen apart with no beds, no oxygen cylinders and no ventilators for the long queues of ambulances and patients… How easy it is to lose hope?
When even in times such as these, the very leaders responsible for our safety are busy doing election rallies, when religious faith and personal gain is given far more importance than human lives and national interest… How shallow the words ‘rely on me’ sounds??
Rely on me. Huh. Of course it will sound absurd if one of our political leaders say it now, after doing everything opposite of what should have been done to control these pandemic. It will sound shallow if the industrialists say it now, donating crores in PM cares, after profiting from the very pandemic going on.
But I know, however absurd and shallow these words may sound, we can't help but hope. Hope, that it will get better if we can just rely on them a little. You can lie all you want, but I know, you still hope that these leaders and industrialists will understand your plights and help you.
And no can fault you for wanting help, for believing that help will come.
How warm these simple words can make you feel, if someone says it to you. How warm these simple words can make others feel, if you say it to them.
When you are feeling bored sitting in your two bedroom apartment, your housemaid maybe struggling financially. When you are itching to go outside and have fun, the watchman of your building might not have gone home for months. When you are watching Netflix in your bed, your classmate might not be able to attend online classes.
When you are comfortable, someone out there is struggling.
And no, I'm not blaming you for your privileges. How could I, when I'm privileged to in some way or other. We all are. I'm only pointing out this privileges to you. I'm pointing out how this pandemic has hit others more severely than us. I'm pointing out how such people need someone to rely on. I'm pointing out how that someone can be 'you and me'.
It's not your responsibility help everyone. It's not your fault if you can't help someone. It's just a request, really. Maybe because we all need someone whom we can rely on. Financially or Physically or Emotionally.
