Don is the custom-made family entertainer for actor Sivakarthikeyan. Being a Producer and Actor, SK gave an enjoyable performance on screen. Debut director Cibi Chakravarthy managed to engage the audience with his colorful presentation and screenplay. The plot of the movie is very similar to 3 Idiots and KD Billa Killadi Ranga. Like 3 Idiots, the film questions the educational system in our society, which fails to discover the hidden talent of the college students. The second half of the movie talks about the sacrifice made by the Parents in upbringing their children which is quite similar to KD Billa Killadi Ranga. The crux of the film was layered into two parts, the first half travels on college life and romance whereas the second half was on the emotional side and the movie ends on a high note. The director did the justice in writing and screenplay but the sudden transformation of the characters in the second half is not convincing. Also, there is a continuity issue in the flow when the movie travels back and forth for the flashback. However, the comedy portions in the first half bring a lot of laughter. Sivakarthikeyan is the perfect choice to play the lead role. Though his physical appearance is not suitable to play the school student, he still managed well with his body language and witty dialogue. The transformation point where he discovers his talent is watchable and he expresses himself well in that scene to convince the audience. SK pairing with Priyanka Mohan looks fresh on-screen. She got a better role to play as a lead actress and her performance is flawless. Samuthirakani plays the strict father role and he performs well towards the end for emotional scenes. SJ Suryah has given his best to play the role of the college principal. The encounter scene between the Don and The Principal is lovely to watch in the first half. However, his contribution in the second half is so flat and sidelined as the movie transforms into the sentimental zone. Director could have penned his character well to engage the audience. Other supporting characters like Bala Saravanan and Mirchi Vijay have good screen space along with SK. Both perform well in the first half with their witty dialogue and one-liners along with Comedian Suri. Anirudh's peppy numbers are already chartbusters and it was filmed well with good choreography. The background score worked out well for the fun ride in the first half. In the second half when the movie transforms into the sentimental zone, Anirudh's emotional track helps the audience to connect well with the story. The camera work is brilliant and colorful. College shots are filmed nicely to bring the true essence of college life. On the downside, Editing lacks perfection and is not crisp. A lot of lengthy scenes are placed in the first half which makes the film less interesting. Some redundant scenes could have been chopped to make it more engaging. The college cultural scenes are quite lengthy and boring to watch. Overall, Don gives a lot of fun and laughter but it fails to impress in between with the continuity issue. However, the film ended with a good message to all age groups. Though it fails to strike it hard it is a watchable family entertainer in theatre. This film is full enjoyment for families l.
