What comes to your mind when you hear this word ‘Fear’? I am sure most of us are not comfortable while reading such words or even while thinking of such situations even in dreams. Facing such situation in real life is just unimaginable for most of us.

Hey Everyone, My name is Vibhu & I writes blogs on various topics either by my experience or my knowledge. So, today in this blog I am going to possibly explain you the Psychology (Mental situation) behind fear. Yes, you read it correct, it's fear.

What technically ‘Fear’ is?

See you don't need a definition of fear to feel it or to know it but it's definition will definitely open up a lot of possibilities for us to decode it, understand it & possibly study it for our own. So let me tell you “Fear is the situation in which your mental state differs from the fact that something could be right for you” that means whenever something fears you, your mind tells you that run away, ditch this situation, don't indulge etc. This exact situation is what we call fear when your mind tries to find escape routes from any situation. Definitely there are Neural & Hormonal mechanisms also involved in this behaviour.

Types of Fear :

There are a tonns of categories but here I am describing only a few so that you can have an idea & feel connected to the topic. These are the main fears as follows :

01. Physical Fear - Being afraid of someone's physicality, they being big you being small etc. The fear of domination physically.

02. Emotional Fear - Fear at an emotional level i.e fear of losing someone, heart break, divorce, breakups etc.

03. Financial Fear - I think in today's world this is the most common fear. One side we search for job security but other side we also fears of losing job, money, finances etc.

04. Logical Fear - Have you ever felt like losing any argument & trying to escape from that situation? Yes, that's what is called logical fear where you are unable to present yourself logically and try to escape.

05. Invisible Fear - This wasn't meant to be included in this post but while researching for my blog I found that most of us also fears paranormal activities, ghosts, spirits like we can say we fears those who even doesn't have any physical existence (atleast according to science).

How does ‘Fear’ works?

See going much into the techanicality will confuse you for sure, so let me tell you in easy language that when ever you face something (person, situation or thought) which looks out of control for you, fear over powers you immediately. Some of the possible reasons for this are :

  • If you are unaware about the situation then you become fearful.
  • If you have never seen something then this may happen.
  • When you do something wrong & tries to overshadow it.
  • When you are not aware about the technicality of something.

For Example : If You or I see a Lion, we would definitely fear because we haven't seen them live in front, or we are not aware about them. But when the one who knows about them like any biologist, keeper, scientist come across such situation they doesn't fear as much as us. You must have seen such things in TV on Discovery Channel or NGC.

Importance of Fear :

Nothing made by nature is a waste, everything is made or evolved for a reason. This same applies for the fear as follows :

  1. Fear protects you in any unwanted situation.
  2. Fear keeps your heart stress free, whenever you fear a hormone called Oxytocin is released which protect the wall of heart and other vital organs.
  3. Fear allows you to overcome sudden changes in nature or situation, if it is absent then one might go into coma.
  4. Fear gives you time to take action, it also allows your brain to reassemble itself within fraction of time and become ready to act.
  5. It safeguards you from any mental trauma, sudden perception of stimulus & even death. But when it increases above its level, it may also be the possible reason of trauma or even death.

Definitely over-fear is not good, Don't fear unnecessarily or there is no need to pretend something and fear which is actually not there. In such situation you might need consultations. But otherwise, fear is a Defense Mechanism made to protect you just like your Immune System.

That's it for this post, I hope this was worth your precious time & must have provided you some knowledge.

Now I will see you in the next blog-post with another topic. Keep supporting & reading my blogs. Also read my other posts and like them too.

Thank You
