Ten Best Random Fun Facts

  1. A cloud weighs about a million tons.
A cloud is typically 1km3 in volume and has a density of 1.003kg per m3 - 0.4 per cent less dense than the surrounding air.
  2. Giraffes are 30 times more likely to be struck by lightning than people.
True, between 1996 and 2010 only five people were the target of a life-threatening lightning strike. But with the species' population at 140,000 at the moment, there are 0.003 lightning deaths per thousand giraffes each year. This is 30 times higher than the human mortality rate.
  3. Identical twins do not have identical fingerprints.
After all, you can't blame your crimes on your twin. Because environmental factors (length of umbilical cord, position in the fetus, and rate of finger growth) affect your fingerprint while growing in the womb.
  4. Animals can experience time differently than humans.
For small animals, the world around them moves slowly compared to humans. For example, salamanders and lizards experience slower time than cats and dogs. This is because the perception of time depends on how quickly the brain can process incoming information.
  5. The oldest dog in the world lived to be 29.5 years old.
The average age a dog reaches is about 10-15 years, and one Australian Cattle Dog, 'Bluey', survived to the ripe old age of 29.5 years.
  6. Most maps of the world are wrong.                                        Every map ever printed is wrong, by definition. The function of a map is to provide a simplified representation of the world. A completely accurate map should be life-size. Worse, the earth is round and paper is flat.
  7. You can literally die laughing.
Yes, it is possible to die laughing, but don't let that stop you from enjoying your favorite sitcom. Only a few cases have been reported, usually resulting in heart attacks or suffocation due to intense laughter.
  8. Bananas are radioactive.
Rich in potassium, each banana is actually slightly radioactive because it contains the natural isotope potassium-40. Interestingly, your body contains 16mg of potassium-40, which means you are already 280 times more radioactive than a banana. The excess potassium-40 you get from bananas is excreted within hours.
  9. Most ginger cats are male.
Ginger genes work differently in cats compared to humans, making female ginger cats a bit harder to come by.              Yes, but not all. The 'ginger gene' that produces orange color is on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes and therefore need two copies of this gene to become ginger, whereas males only need one.
  10. You don't like the sound of your own voice because of the bones in your head.
Don't worry, your song isn't the only problem.            Most of us are happy until we hear our voice recorded. One reason is that the recorded voice sounds louder than we are used to. This is because we usually hear our voice, in part, because it is conducted through the bones in our head, which sound deep.
