Once The King Is Always A King

The proverb "Once a king, always a king" captures the idea that those who have occupied a position of royalty or authority retain the characteristics, power, or prestige that go along with that position even after their official reign has come to an end.

It illustrates the ongoing influence of their former status on how people view and interact with them. Literally speaking, it can allude to the old belief that a person who has had the title of monarch still carries some degree of respect, authority, or recognition even after they have stepped down from their position of power.

Their prior reigning experience becomes an essential component of their identity, influencing the way society perceives them.

The expression, taken metaphorically, goes beyond monarchy to represent the idea that some accomplishments or powerful positions have a lasting impact on a person.

When someone achieves the highest level of success, their reputation and influence continue to grow, regardless of whether they are in business, academia, or any other sector.
It's crucial to understand that although if the term implies permanence, it doesn't always indicate continuous, active rule. Rather, it highlights the lasting influence and acknowledgment associated with previous leadership roles.

Reputable rulers should have attributes like justice, wisdom, and a sincere concern for the welfare of their subjects. One of the most influential kings in South Indian history is commonly regarded as Raja Raja Chola, an ancient Chola king. He embodies the following traits:
1. **Leadership with Vision:** Raja Raja Chola exhibited a progressive mindset by emphasising culture, art, and infrastructure. His desire for the prosperity of the realm was demonstrated by the vast architectural projects he commissioned, such as the Brihadeeswarar Temple.
2. Equitable Governance: Justice in government is guaranteed by a lovable monarch. Raja Raja Chola is known for his equitable governance and establishment of a proficient administrative framework. His subjects' well-being was important to him.
3. **Arts Patronage:** It's important to support cultural initiatives. Under Raja Raja Chola's reign, Tamil culture flourished thanks to his sponsorship of the arts and literature. The very Brihadeeswarar Temple bears witness to his taste in art and design.
4. **Military Prowess:** The kingdom needs to be guarded by the ruler. Due to his military prowess, Raja Raja Chola was able to extend the Chola Empire and provide peace and security for his subjects.
5. **Cultural Integration:** It's critical to promote harmony between varied communities. Raja Raja Chola fostered unity between diverse communities by skillfully incorporating diverse cultural components into his realm.
In conclusion, the people prefer to love a king who is fair, visionary, powerful in government, supportive of the arts, and considerate of cultural blending, much like Raja Raja Chola.
