The Importance of Holi
The traditions and celebrations of Holi go back centuries. Lord Krishna, one of Hindu's most prominent gods, is said to have performed a festival of colors. But more than that, Holi is tied to humanity's belief that good will always triumph over evil. For this reason, his two-day festival usally begins with a ceremony called Holika Dahan. This is a religious ceremony held on the evening of holi in which a huge log is till to symbolize burning evil. Holika is the younger sister of demon king Hiranyakashipu, and she is blessed with fire resistance. On the orders of herr wicked brother, Holika tried to kill her young nephew (Hiranyakashipu's son), prahlad, sitting with him in the crematorium. Since Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, he emerged alive from the fire that swallowed her Holika and burned her to death. From this episode we can say that even blessings cannot prevent evil from triumphing over good.
