A Snack For The Rainy Evening

Rainy evening in a North Indian household is often accompanied with a hot cup of Chai and a greasy snack popularly called Veg Pakoda.

Yesterday, After completing a meeting with my project guide.I felt hungry and the weather outside gave me a clue to make my evening a bit spicy. So, I decided to give this one a go and decided to share with you guys today as my first blog post (show some love guys).

All you need is 5 cups gram flour, 3 sliced potatoes, 4 sliced onions, bunch of spinach, chopped green chilies, paprika, turmeric, red chilly powder, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black pepper, 20-30 dried curry leaves, salt to taste, 5 table spoons of curd. Wash the veggies thoroughly. (One can find almost everything in a regular Indian household).

Now, lets get started. Add all the powdered ingredients with gram flour and add curd in it. Blend it for a good 7-9 minutes to make the pakoda crunchy. Add 1 cup of water and mix it well. Leave the mixture for 15 minutes so that it can get settled. Later, add all the veggies in the mixture and mix it well ( Please do this step with your bare hands, otherwise the veggies will get crushed). Now add great amount of mustard oil in a plan put it on the gas. Take one veggie soaked in a gram flour mixture at a time and drop it in the hot oil, deep fry it, till it changes the color to golden brown. Take it away from the pan. Your super hot spicy snack is ready.

Although, one can get this super tasty snack from the market also, but you never know how fresh they are or they are using fresh ingredients or not. One most unhealthy thing they do is that they keep deep frying the pakoras in same burnt oil over the course of several days, which makes oil carcinogenic and also they wrap it up in a newspaper that is not quite a right thing to do.

I decided to have it in a late evening with sauce and chai so, yes I skipped a dinner. Well as you all know we are living in a pandemic stuck era and have to be in our best physical and mental state possible and also on the other hand our mind and tongue deserves a treat. So, give it a go guys.

ENJOY YOUR SNACK

STAY SAFE.
