In a city lived a very famous painter, he was known for his work and wise nature. He had one intern who used to live with him and learn painting. Everyone in and around the city was impressed by the paintings of this painter and many rich people visit him to get their own paintings. Day by day the painter grew rich as he got so many rewards from the rich for his hard work.
One day a rich lady visited him with her dog and asked him to paint a portrait of herself with her dog.
Painter agreed and asked the lady to visit him the next week.
After a week of hard work, rich lady portrait along with her dog was completed. Next day, the lady came to get her portrait, her dog was also with her.
Painter showed her portrait and waited for her response. As long as the lady was looking into the portrait her dog went outside and started playing. The lady became so angry at the painter and she do not wanted to pay him.
Lady looked at the painting and then looked at her dog and said, “You have made an absolutely rubbish painting, even my dog is not paying attention to it. I came here because I heard great praise of your work but it was all wrong. I will not give you any money for this painting."
The painter was so worried and asked the rich lady to come next day and he promised her that he would give the best portrait of her and the dog which the dog would like the most.
The painter was thinking about is promise to the rich lady and he also thinks that it takes a week to make a new portrait. The intern asked the painter to start painting the portrait and he would help in all possible ways.
The painter asked the intern to sleep well and he would take care of everything.
Next day, Lady again came with her dog.
This time as soon as lady came near painting with her dog, her dog started to lick that painting.
Seeing this, old rich lady thought that her dog like her picture a lot and was happy to see this. She paid the money and left with painting.
The painter was so happy in earning the money.
When intern saw this he was curious and asked the painter, “Yesterday, dog was not even looking at the portrait and today the dog was licking it. How is this possible?”
Painter smiled and replied, “I had rubbed a piece of meat on bottom edge of picture at night, due to which the dog started licking it.”
After hearing this the intern understood that hard work is not the only key of success. Smart work is the major element of success.
The intern thanked the painter for this life lesson and he promised to save his master's praise all over where he travel.
