Hey candlemonk family, hope you all are doing great in your lives. I also hope that you all are enjoying my writeups. As you know that Navratri is here. one of the traditional and colorful festival of the year.

Navratre is a hindu festival that span nine nights and its celebrated every year in the autumn. these are observed for different reasons and celebrated differemtly in various parts of the india. in navratre, every temple is decorated, the evenings are seems to be so colorful. In this blog, i will talk about the first day of navratri.

On first day of navratre, Maa shailaputre the daughter of mountains (shaila means mountains and putri means daughter), is worshipped. she was the daughter of god of mountains Himalaya. Popularly known as parvati the wife of shiva with two sons named as kartika and ganesha.

Let's have a look to the story of her birth, Devi sati was the daughter of great king, Daksh prajapati. he was one of the son of Lord brahma. Daksh did not want her daughter to marry shiva. once daksh organised a grand yagna nd called all the gods. He disliked shiva so didn't invite sati and shiva for that yogna but when she came to know about yagna being organised by her father she wanted to go home. but shiva told her that we are not invited, it was obvious that he didn't want us to go or visit there. but she didn't listen to shiva and she went there. but there she felt uninvited as none of them was happy to see sati except her mother. she felt a great sense of pain. Daksh even insulted shiva in front of her that was so unbearable for her. With that pain and grief she jumped into the fire meant for yagna and immolated herself.

The news pf immolation of sati reached to shiva, he proceed to destroy daksh because of this incident. then shiva went their and carried the body of sati with him, the body parts fell at various places. these places are known as Shakti peethas. there are 52 shakti peethas in india.

In her next birth, she born as the daughter of himalaya, the god of mountains and was named as Shailaputri. her other names were parvati and hemavati. In this birth also she was married to lord shiva.

So this was the story of devi sati, and we worshipped her on the first day of navratre as Maa shailaputre…..

Happy navratre to all❤may you all be blessed with health, happiness, peace and prosperity…
