This drama turned into a ridiculous comedy. I must first express my gratitude to FL for selecting our initiative. I find it incomprehensible that so many people are unable to grasp this and are constantly moaning about the characters' ridiculous and inexplicable behavior for royal standards or about the lack of historical truth. As you can see, since this is a comedy, absurdity, misinterpretations, and overacting are all common elements. Additionally, I really enjoyed the humor throughout the entire show. Comedy dramas frequently begin lightheartedly before abruptly shifting into a more somber tone. This isn't there in The Legendary Life of Queen Lau; instead, there is a lot of laughter throughout the serious scenes.
Although the romance aspect may have been improved, I don't think this would take away from the drama. The lack of intimacy between the couple didn't seem all that weird to me because I'm extremely accustomed to other Asian dramas, such as Japanese, Thai, and Korean dramas, which have very few to no kisses and skinship. They were indeed really close to each other, always holding hands, giving hugs, and expressing love even when they weren't kissing. Unlike some, I didn't get the impression that the Emperor had fallen in love right away; rather, it was extremely gradual, and we could watch his interest in her building. His daydreams and thoughts about her are really endearing and humorous.
Though I adored each character, the drama truly belongs to the Queen! One could say that she is ugly.
In actuality, I've been waiting for this for a while—mostly because of FL and because I wanted the remarks made by the haters to backfire on them. And I'm happy that it did! My expectations were met and beyond. Everything about the production quality, performance, and comedy was excellent. The FL began as a lovesick young woman who was unaware of anything but the ML; yet, she learned to stand her stance on matters that were important to her. Prepare for the dispute around the Japanese attire. Her humor and smile are contagious. I adore how deeply and unknowingly the ML fell in love with her.
Even the secondary couples had a strong chemistry with one another.
In conclusion, I think it's a hilarious and adorable romance drama that will make you smile virtually constantly. You should choose this if you want to decompress without making any sense; I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did. If you approach it with the understanding that it's a comedy first, a romance later, and a palace drama never, then you should.
I fervently hope that the queen and her husband will experience even more shenanigans, madness, and love in a future season! Who knows, perhaps even a child. This would be so wonderful for me. This drama is rated at 8.1.
