◆Following the release of the iPad Pro, Apple seems to be planning to release two MacBooks with XDR displays later this year. Apple is expected to release new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with mini-LED displays in the second half of 2021, according to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce.The notebooks are said to be fuelled by an Apple silicon chip and will feature a new design that includes the return of an SD card slot and HDMI port.
◆The Cupertino tech giant recently announced the release of a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Liquid Retina XDR monitor that achieves up to 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness and 1,600 nits of peak brightness using mini-LED backlighting.
◆The monitor contains over 10,000 miniLEDs that are organised into over 2,500 local dimming zones, resulting in a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.Extreme Dynamic Range displays are what Apple calls the mini-LED displays used with these iPads (XDR). This technology is expected to appear on other Apple products this year, in addition to the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is powered by the M1 chipset, which is said to be 50% faster than the previous iPad Pro and has a 40% faster GPU.
◆The iPad Pro can be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of internal storage, making it twice as fast as the previous model.
◆According to rumours, Apple will have an upgraded version of its M1 chip in the forthcoming MacBook notebooks. If Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo are right, the Touch Bar will be replaced with physical feature keys, and the MagSafe magnetic power cable will make a comeback.
◆The iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini are the four revised Mac models with Apple silicon that have been announced so far. Apple has previously reported that it intends to phase out Intel processors by about WWDC 2022.
