1. Lisevegan Street, Norway
With spectacular fjord views and a sharp stretch of 27 hairpin turns, Lysevegan Road from Norway's Lysefjord to Syrdal is high on our to-do list. At an altitude of more than 950 meters above sea level, cruise through the clouds as you descend to the village of Laisboten at the foot of the valley surrounding the fjord. On the way you will pass the mountain lake Suleskarvegan and there are many viewpoints where you can stop and enjoy the scenery. The whole area is great for hiking, and it's no surprise that Lyseboten offers great cruises across the fjords.

2. Leh-Manali Highway, India
The infamous Leh-Manali Highway winds through the majestic Himalayas. Please note that this route is 298 miles long and the trail is very high so altitude sickness is possible. Tourists flock here in the summer when the weather is milder. Also, if you're planning a visit, it's nice to know that road conditions have improved in recent years. But this is one of the most challenging routes on our list.

3. Pacific Coast Highway, USA
This is one of America's great roads, winding for 128 miles along the rugged California coast, passing beaches and redwood forests with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, he passes two major state parks, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and Garrapata State Park, while passing historic towns such as Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea. Wildlife sanctuaries like Point Lobos State Reserve are home to a great diversity of flora and fauna, and you may even see migrating gray whales between December and April.

4. Amalfi Drive, Italy
A drive along Italy's Amalfi Coast takes you through an enchanting mix of enchanting seaside towns, turquoise waters, sheer cliffs and pastel-coloured hilltop villages. The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its extraordinary Mediterranean landscape, and a coastal drive is one of the best ways to experience it. The road is notoriously narrow and winding, hugging cliffs and offering dramatic panoramas. The best route is between Salerno and Positano.

5.Transfagarasan Highway, Romania
This highway crosses the Fagaras Mountains, Romania's highest peak at over 2,000 m. The road is 56 miles long and features steep vistas and hairpin turns. It's a great route for a day trip, taking in the beautiful scenery and trying out the walking trails along the way. Be sure to stop at Balea Glacier Lake and be prepared to encounter a herd of sheep along the way.
