I started my medical school is year 2014, September. 1st year of medical school is for  1 year and ending with examination .

We had main 3 subjects to study ie anatomy, physiology, biochemistry. These subjects are termed as pre clinical as they donot require us to visit the hospital and interact with patients.

Our routine was divided into 2 sessions morning and afternoon. We had theory classes from 8-11am. Respectively divided into 1 hr each devoted to the 3 subjects. Our classes were conducted through video presentation. We were about 200 in our classs and invariably the most important part of our class was our attendance πŸ˜‚.

Then from 11-1 pm we had dissection hall class. There were cadavers that were preserved by embalming in the lab. Almost 10 students in a group were assigned to one cadaver. One teacher assigned to each table. We were to learn anatomy using our helpful friends β€œ the cadaver”. I bow down to them for giving their body to medicine.

So what did we exactly learn in our dissection hall. We were supposed to learn about the muscles of the body, the bones and their importance and their attachments. Study each and every organ and their relations in the body. We were supposed to learn the the different arteries, veins and nerves in the body. This was undoubtedly the most fun we had learning. My personal favourite organ to be studies was the brain 🧠 and lungs 🫁.

Then we had 1 hr of lunch session where we  quickly headed to our mess, had the meal and went into dormitories to relax our mind .

Post lunch we have practical period , wherein we went to the labs of the respective subjects in groups of 25.

Anatomy lab had us looking into the microscope and into the tissues and cells.

Physiology lab had us taking out own drops of bloods and performing test for example blood group testing.

Biochemistry lab had us mixing different chemical solutions and interpreting in terms of medical science.

Out of all the subjects most difficult was anatomy to learn, most fun for me was biochem lab and easiest to read and understand was physiology.

These subjects make the basic of medical sciences and basics need to be very strong.

1st year is invariably the most difficult because of the transition to a new place , new people , new subjects all together and the need to prove everyone good.

1st year marked the most important journey of my life where I found my best of friends, ventured into medical science and living a bit of independent life.
