What is dark tourism?
One could refer to dark tourism as taking up a journey to visit war-affected places or places evident of deaths, disasters and tragic events. One could choose dark tourism for entertainment, education and remembrance. One's desire to take up dark tourism is backed up by the motive that they want to understand either the history of the place, the architecture or the survivors of the war and their mental stage. There is no question that it needs a colossal mindset or perspective in the first place to understand the lifelong impacts the journey would withhold. One should support dark tourism. There could be various motivations related to taking up such tourism one of them would be events of sudden and violent death (terrorist attacks) and another one could be human's curiosity to visit places with a haunted history.
Human emotions are subjective and also this kind of activity could also trigger a vast amount of different human emotions. One could be filled with anxiety before visiting the site of dark tourism and would be glad after leaving, knowing that it wasn't them. Dark tourism is just one way human beings could feel better about themselves and develops a sense of understanding and empathy towards others; it makes one less tolerant about all the other circumstances. Just taking a hypothetical situation where one goes to visit a war-affected zone, what would it feel to be there? Lots of anxiety, fear, panics? To the answer a lot more than that, while conversing with the people or the citizens who survived the war, which saw thousands of dead bodies on the streets each day, who saw people leaving their other significant halves, people who saw their houses burning down, families who witness the death of their son who is fighting the war, people who saw their lives coming to a pause.
What would it feel like to witness this never-ending war? Dark tourism is not only limited to education or entertainment; it could be a life-changing experience. It could bring out so many positive emotions to one's life. It would make one's problem look so small as compared to what other people went through emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. The world where we live today, it's not a very happy place to be in. There is goanna be wars for the acquisition of power, there are goanna be killings and a lot of it, and there is going to be endless pain. One can't change it that's how worlds go on as we all have been hearing. If out of all such cruelty, one could find anything that is positive and motivating one should go for it.
