You is a Netflix psychological mystery series that follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), an obsessive stalker and bookstore manager, and his attempts to exploit the people around him in order to "win" the affections of someone he is currently stalking and obsessed with. Guinevere Beck, a literary graduate student and aspiring novelist, was his first goal in Season 1. (Elizabeth Lail), In Season 2, he concentrated on chef Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).
Each season's plot revolves around Joe's relationship with his goal, as well as their various friends and acquaintances. Although Joe is undeniably a creepy stalker who will go to any length to make his victims fall in love with him, with his sweet and good-looking exterior and sardonic voiceover narration, elicits a lot of compassion for him as he correctly dissects the shortcomings of those around him, even as he demonstrates that he is just as bad as those he despises. Almost every main character has significant flaws, and the way those flaws communicate with one another is breathtaking. Following that, there are few characters who are clearly "good" or "evil." Joe and a few others are more blatantly villainous or unscrupulous in their behaviour, but everyone is mostly just shades of grey.
The series is full of surprises, each one revealing more and more about each major character's inner psychological workings. It is made clear that, while trauma may have a significant effect on individuals, it does not justify their criminal behaviour. Beck's childhood story line retroactively describes a lot of her struggles with publicity, wealth, and having a fear of failure. These characteristics cause her to make choices that harm her mates, and she can be callous when it comes to lying and being reckless. Joe is an obsessed stalker with a deep desire to be cherished, and the only way he can achieve this is by stalking women and manipulating them into relationships, no matter what obstacles stand in his way. He also has no idea that his actions are creepy and frightening. Love has similar problems with her rich parents, desiring more affection and attempting to bridge the gap between them. Everyone has a tangle of personal problems, and seeing it all from the eyes of a stalker, someone who knows everything there is to know about other people's lives, makes for a fascinating experience.
In conclusion, You is a psychological thriller with fascinating story lines, engaging and believable flawed characters, surprising turns, and a distinctive visual style. It's a lot of fun and well worth your time to watch.
