Hey everyone 😄,

First of all thank you so much for your support on my last blog. You guys are the best 😊. Secondly I hope you are having a wonderful day.

This blog post is gonna be about kitchen gardening or gardening in general and how to plant your own plants, fruits, herbs or vegetables if you are a beginner or are interested in it. As we all know last year was a very difficult one for all of us because of the Covid pandemic. Because of the lockdown we weren't able to go out to buy groceries and essentials, let alone go out for an outing. This gave me an idea of planting a small kitchen garden.

For having a kitchen garden you don't necessarily need to have a garden or a backyard. If you live in an apartment like me you can plant it in your balcony or even in small pots in your gallery.

Here is a picture of my small garden.

My kitchen garden

There are many different kinds of plants you can plant in your garden. I chose to plant tomatoes, coriander and mint. I also planted some other plants and flowers with it.

Coriander- So for the coriander plant I took some coriander seeds and crushed them lightly with a rolling pin so that the seeds split into two.

Then I soaked the seeds in water overnight.

The next day I planted the seeds in well watered soil in a pot and covered them with a thin layer of soil. Be careful and don't cover the seeds with too much soil otherwise the seeds may not sprout.

Keep this pot in sunlight for 3-4 hours daily and in shade for the rest of the day. In 2 weeks the seeds will start to sprout and the coriander will grow. When it starts to grow you will have to keep the plant in sunlight for 5-6 hours. In some weeks you'll have your coriander ready to use.

Here's a picture of my coriander plant.

Mint/Pudina- For the mint plant all you have to do is use store-bought mint stems and trim them a little at the bottom end so that it is freshly cut. Then plant these stems in a pot with soil and water it regularly. Keep this plant in shade for the initial 2 weeks. Then move it to a sunny area in your house as mint plant requires atleast 5-6 hours of sunlight like the coriander plant.

As mint is a weed, it grows very quickly so be careful about planting it directly into the soil.

Here's a picture of some cuttings from my mint plant.

Tomatoes- I bought a small tomato plant for this and planted it in a pot. In some weeks the plant got flowers and then small tomatoes came out of those. It was lovely to watch them grow.

I kept the plant in sunlight for 6 hours daily and watered it regularly.

You can customize your kitchen garden any way you like by growing different fruits, vegetables, herbs, adding some flowers to beautify it, etc. It will be your own green corner of the house and will soon become your favourite. 😃

This may seem difficult at first but soon you'll start to enjoy it like me. Gardening has become a hobby for me now and I like to plant new plants and use them in many different recipes.

All the pictures above have been taken by me.

Hope you liked today's blog and found it useful. I have planted some other plants in my garden as well. Here are some pictures.
