We all have heard the age-old story of hare and tortoise. Let's start with refreshing the childhood memories of the story.

So, the hare and tortoise decided to race and see who is the fastest. As the race started, the hare took off like a rocket, and the tortoise started slowly. After reaching a certain distance, the hare looked behind and noticed there was no trace of tortoise. So he decided to have a sweet nap. The tortoise continued to stroll. He saw a hare sleeping under a tree, but he continued to walk to reach the end. Hare woke up abruptly and started to run again. He thought he would win, but he had a surprise waiting for him. Tortoise reached the end and won the race.

Moral: Slow and steady win the race.

An absolute classic with great learning.

  • Arrogance is the cause for downfall.
  • Talent is not everything.
  • Perseverance is a must to win.
  • Hard work bears results.
  • Slow and steady wins the race.
  • Consistency is key to success.
  • Complacency can be dangerous.

Think of this story taking place in the modern era. With technology and managerial skills learned, the story could be entirely different.

So, here are a few versions for you.

Version 1:

Hare is still angry with failure. He is constantly pushing to race again. He now knows his drawbacks of laziness and carelessness and is ready to win this time. Well, this is race 2. He wins this time; being fast finally pays off.

Moral: Know and use your power positively to win.

Version 2:

Tortoise smelled something fishy. He devises a new plan. The race started. Hare and tortoise started to run. This time hare did not sleep but took a couple of seconds to look back for the tortoise. Again no trace, and he began to run happily. Wait, the tortoise won again. How?

So, the tortoise devised a strategy. He used a twin to start the race somewhere near the end, and he hid behind the grass on the way. The power of two brilliant brains against one hard worker won this time.

Moral: Smart work can be better than hard work.

Version 3:

Tortoise is a techie. He agreed to the virtual race, and hare thought he could crack it. Unfortunately, the overpowering anger and confidence failed the hare to analyze his real potential. Again he failed, and the tortoise won the race.

Moral: Stay updated with new trends to win the race.

Version 4:

Wow! There have been so many races, and now these two are great acquaintances. They both analyzed their potential and skills and challenged others. This time the speed of hare and smartness of the tortoise made them the unbeatable team.

Moral: Your core competencies are tremendous but knowing others' competencies helps create the best team.

Version 5:

Hare accepted the defeat and learned a lot from it. In contrast, the tortoise was so happy to win that he wasted his time boasting around. Overconfidence crushed tortoise later while hare used the lesson and became successful in life.

Moral: Winning and losing are part of life; learn from them.

There can be indefinite versions of the story, each to teach a new lesson. But all points out towards one fact:

BE A GOOD LEARNER, BE CONSISTENT, KNOW YOUR MISTAKES AND POTENTIAL, AND NEVER UNDERESTIMATE ANYONE.
