Philipines is a country of stories about ghosts, urban legends, monsters, and other mythical beings. One of the most famous legends is "Aswang" who share the characteristics of vampires and, the only difference is that they eat human flesh instead of drinking blood.  You can hear many stories that associate or linked to "Aswang" or "Aswang curse" and the story of "Maria Labo" tops the list. Maria Labo's story got so famous and known that even local newspapers published her story. According to legend, Maria Labo had a son and a loving husband who was a police officer. She is a dedicated wife and mother who loved them with all her heart, but soon it changed when she went to Canada in the hope to help her husband and give a better life to her son. In Canada, she started working as a caregiver, her employer was good and treated her nicely, but he always gives her half-cooked meat to eat. She did not like that but has to eat it as she needs this job. However,  her employer was not a normal person as he seems but a vampire or "Aswang" who is mixing his blood in her food, which she unwillingly consuming every day. But after some time, she fell ill and seeing the sicking health, she came back home, so she can spend time with family. Everybody was happy, she was too, but soon she starts struggling with sleepless nights and getting zoomed out frequently. She starts fantasizing about eating human flesh,  her health worried her husband, and he decided to take her to the hospital. But one day suddenly,  when her husband came back from work he finds her cured and more beautiful for no reason. Seeing positive changes in her, the husband was relieved. She asked him to sit down and have diner with her while sitting, her husband asked her about their son.  She turned her back to him and in a sluggish voice, she replied with "our son is right here" but her husband couldn't understand the meaning of the words she just uttered. After diner husband opens the fridge, he felt trembling feet and anger, as he saw his son's head was lying there and the body was cooked. He got furious and in a fit of rage, he took the "labo" ( big knife) and attacked her which resulted in a slashed mark on her face earning her name Maria Labo. Seeing her husband in anger she fled to the Visayas then to Mindanao. It's said that she still hunts in these regions to satiate her hunger for human flesh. As being the typical Aswang, she has the ability to shapeshift and change her appearance and she is ageless like vampires. She got so famous that her story grabbed the attention of the mass population. Around 6 to 7 years ago when a local newspaper published her story and after that, her sighting did not only increase but also with every storyteller her story got modified and scarier than the last one. Her popularity reached the sky and people start making up a story that she got a cell phone and if you dial her number, you can hear a growling voice like an animal.

I'm not sure whether she is real or not, but all I can say people forget the real reason why she becomes like that, all they can remember her deeds.
