It was a warm sunny afternoon. Me and my friend were returning from school on our bicycles. My friend's house was near to the school than mine . After dropping him i was cycling towards my house .
About three lanes away from my house comes a chowk. From this chowk on the right hand side was the railway track . My house was located near this railway track but on the left hand side about three lanes away .
Just as i was about to cross the chowk i heard the whistle of the railway engine . I saw the train . And their my wonderful 7th standard mind decided to race against the train and see who reaches the house first .
My cycle against the mighty train. The true David vs Goliath story . I started pedaling ferociously. I dint worry about the tilting school bag on my back nor did i worry about the left right moving water bottle on the handle . I was in the zone.
The first lane passed , i could hear the whistles of the engine. It was still far away. I got excited and increased my speed even more. The road was vacant with no one around. This was perfect scene for my victory.
I crossed the second lane . I was going to win this. Just as i crossed the second lane and tried to turn for the third my water bottle got stuck between the front cycle rod and the handle. The next moment i was on the ground with a thunderous noise . The cycle overturned on my lower right leg and it got stuck. At that moment i was blank, not a single thought in my head. Suddenly i saw my neighbour aunty rushing towards me and enquiring what had happened. She picked the cycle up, got my bag and bottle and told me to get up . I somehow managed to get up using my left leg but as soon as did i try to put my right leg down there was pain, lots of it. I could not walk. Aunty realised it and she gave me a helping hand. My house was just few metres away. I somehow hobbled and reached the front door.
In the afternoons mother used to be alone in the house waiting for me and my sister to come back from school. My Father used to follow after us. When she saw me limping on the front door out she came rushing. Aunty explained her everything.
I sat on the chair . I had bruises on my shoulder and my hands. She applied dettol to it. Till that time papa had arrived. I told him everything and that i could not walk. He understood my pain and took me to the hospital on our two wheeler. I was sitting on the back seat of the scooter. Everytime there was a bump my leg would pain.
We reached the hospital. When the doctor saw my leg and got an x-ray done i got the news - it was fracture. Never did i realise it was going to be the first fracture out of three in the future.
