India is a vast country consisting of people following different cultures and traditions and people growing with different mentalities and aspirations. After independence in 1947, India has developed a lot and needs to get more developed in certain areas. Right now India consists of 135 crores of the population, which makes it stand as the 2nd most populated country in the world. India is a country where people go through a lot of difficulties and by lot means it's a huge number. In this country, half of the people go through poverty, unemployment, and underemployment which also play a major role in having a financial crisis. And after all there, if a normal family in this country is trying to manage its daily livelihood by getting some extra earnings, then that's where GENDER STEREOTYPES AND CASUAL SEXISM ENTERS.
BIRTH OF GENDER STEREOTYPES:-
The formation of gender stereotypes usually starts after a child is born. If the child is a “BOY” then he is assumed to be emotionally strong which refers that he as a human is not allowed to cry because according to Indian thinking boys are not supposed to show their emotions. Gender stereotypes cast men as more competent, ambitious, assertive, and competitive. Whenever a boy for whatsoever is crying then he is told that “stop crying! Do not cry like a girl. Boys don't really cry.”REALLY??!! Then what are boys supposed to do? Are they supposed to suppress their feelings and emotions? And after suppressing all of this, will society take responsibility for its consequences? Because if someone starts suppressing their emotions, then there will be major consequences. This individual might go through depression and might have a major breakdown which could also act as a major turning point in their life. Will society be able to handle this? Not exactly, they will start blaming others. Boys are always expected to play with cars and with some boyish toys and when a “GIRL” is born, it is assumed that her favourite color must be pink. And women as more communal supportive, caring, warm, emotional, and selfless compared to other members of the other sex. As mentioned before, people's mentality is developing every day but there still exist some people who always make under-the-belt sexist comments which harm an individual's mental health.
HOW CONSCIOUSLY IT HETS PROMOTED:-
Unconsciously gender stereotype also gets promoted in educational institutions. Gender stereotyping at educational institutes may act as very harmful for an individual as it limits men and women's capacity to develop their personal attributes and abilities and follow or pursue their professional and some choices about their lives too. While doing research on the students, it was observed that it always been said by the elders that girls cant be as good as boys while solving mathematics equations. Though girls nowadays are doing great in fields of mathematics but still such sexist comments being passed. Why a girl cant be as good as a boy in maths? There are boys who are the least interested in maths and it's totally okay if they don't. Nobody will ever force anyone to have stereotypical choices and decisions. Sometimes it acts like a boomer for the people when they get to know that women can also have some massive love for cricket. Most of the time when woman tries indulge herself in cricket related stuff then she hears some judgmental comments saying “ Oh! you girls like cricket?" I mean “Yes”. Why can't girls like cricket? Why it is such a shocker for some people? Right now we are standing in this 21st century and till now students are taught should earn money and women should get married and must take care of their babies. The question that always stands in our society is that why men can't handle family while women earn money for the family's livelihood? That won't be practically possible. Okay, so men and women both work and earn money and then shall equally divide household chores so that women won't get burdens for the whole household work. This way not fully but at some point gender stereotyping would get reduced. All we have to do is accept the individuals ignoring the fact that what they like or prefer. It's their personal choice and not a social discussion that needs to get discussed or needs different opinions. For implementation, people have got liberty and equality and they will do whatever their heart tells them to do without harming other people liberties. UNWANTED OPINIONS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED. And moreover, if we could be more conscious while talking or making judgements then it will be a great start to reduce gender stereotype in our society.
