K-Pop or Korean Pop music is one of the most globally recognized and loved genre of music in current times.
The catchy music, difficult dance choreographies, good looking K-pop stars and global recognition is not the only thing that goes on. Korean pop is much more and many background things happen for it to be what it is.
K-Pop Artist are not born over night. Many aspiring artists or trainees are required to train for months and years, until managing companies pick them up and are launched. Good looks, singing, dancing abilities and a lot of perseverance and sweat goes into their idol making.
What may seem like a normal phenomena, K-pop did not just came to be. It was made to happen. The South Korean Government actually encouraged and help K-pop blow up to help with the nation's economy. In the late 90s the then President decided to use Korean culture as an investment to build financial gains. Hence, the Korean wave hit the world!
In order to connect with the global audience, the K-pop groups had to include some things always and create a strategy. Most K-pop songs have catchy English phrases in between their Korean words. Almost all K-Pop idols were given an easy English name for the audiences to connect. And most importantly, at least one member spoke English to represent and interview in place outside Korea. No country was spared of the Koran wave, so much so that a K-pop band actually performed in North Korea too! A K-Pop group called โRed Velvetโ performed in Pyongyang and their Leader, Kim Jung Un too witnessed the performance.
Apart from the Korean Government's perusal, I personally feel it is not just their business plan that worked out but the ability of K-pop in itself to be appealing to people world wide. The contemporary music and dance is something young people enjoy all over the world. Their fashion and performances strike the right chords with global audience. Also the fact that it hit when internet and communication had amplified among nations due to internet and social media. Had this scheme been formed a decade back, I am sure it would not have had the same effect.
Whatever be the reason, there is no denying that the K-Pop idols put in a lot of hard work and dedication to present us with such great music and videos. It is something we all should appreciate that their perseverance has paid off and that the deserve the global platform that the worked for!
