Mani Ratnam's ideal undertaking
Mani Ratnam has had the dream of bringing the historical figures to life on the big screen since 1994, but back then, it was a big deal to produce a movie with a budget of 100 crore. He had a setback in 2010 due to the absence of a suitable location, but he was determined to overcome it, and as a result, in 2019 the film's production finally got underway. And right present, the film is being produced on a staggering budget of Rs. 500 crore.

After working on the book for three and a half years and making three journeys to Sri Lanka for research, Kalki finally finished it. Kalki added a few fictitious characters to the story to heighten the suspense. In order to develop an intriguing plot, he also gave the already existing characters some fresh features.
The enigma of the Chola Dynasty
The mysterious death of King Rajraja Cholan's older brother Aditya Karikalan was the largest enigma in the Chola Dynasty's actual reign. Rajraja was then forced to assume responsibility, but he decided to delegate it to his uncle Uttama and subsequently, after Uttama's death, to reign the Chola dynasty.
Empire of Rajraja Cholan
After declaring victory in Kandalur Salai, he took control of the provinces of Venadu, Kollam, etc. RajRaja seized control of a chunk of what is now Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh after defeating the eastern and western Chalukyas. Later, he conquered parts of Sri Lanka and the Maldives and changed the name of the Pandya raj to rajraja mandalam.
