Why Is Christmas Celebrated In December???

Hey friends!!! When I think about Christmas, the first things that come to my mind are gifts, pretty lights, a big X-mas tree, and yummy treats. It's my most favorite celebration.

Do you know why we celebrate Christmas in December?

Most Christians celebrate Christmas, the festival that honors the birth of Jesus Christ, on December 25 of the Gregorian calendar. However, the date of Jesus' actual birth is unknown (some academics believe it was in early spring, moving it closer to Easter, the holiday marking his Resurrection). Early Christians also did not commemorate his birth.

The holiday we celebrate in December has been around for a really long time. People started celebrating it a long time ago, maybe around 200 years after Jesus was born. There are different reasons why we celebrate it in December.

One reason is because a historian thought that Jesus was conceived (or started growing in his mom's belly) on March 25. If we count nine months from that day, it would mean that Jesus was born on December 25.

A long time ago, there was a big empire called the Roman Empire. They had a special day on December 25th where they celebrated the sun. This day was important because it meant that the days were getting longer after a cold and dark time called winter. They also had a festival called Saturnalia where they ate lots of yummy food and gave presents to each other. On this day, they also celebrated the birthday of a special god named Mithra, who was very important to the soldiers in the Roman Empire.

The church in Rome began formally celebrating Christmas on December 25 in 336, during the reign of the emperor Constantine. This happened a long time after their leader, Emperor Constantine, made Christianity the main religion in their country.

Some people think they chose this date to make the other celebrations that were happening around the same time less important. But not everyone agreed on this date, and it took a while for everyone to start celebrating Christmas on December 25th.

In fact, it wasn't until many years later, in the 9th century, that Christmas became a really big celebration for Christians.

I love making things like cards, gifts, and decorations for Christmas. I also enjoy baking cakes and making snacks for my family and friends.

Here some of my X-mas creations for my loved ones.
