Hey friends!!! How are you guys?? I hope you all are doing well. Here I am with another blog about grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa.

When introducing the 2024 interim budget, Indian Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman mentioned R. Praggnanandhaa, the grandmaster of Indian chess.

An Indian grandmaster at chess is named Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. He was a chess prodigy who attained the titles of grandmaster at the age of twelve, having become an international master at the age of ten, the youngest at the time.

On August 10, 2005, Praggnanandhaa was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His mother Nagalakshmi is a homemaker who frequently goes to national and international contests with her son Rameshbabu, who works as a branch manager at TNSC Bank. In Chennai, he went to Velammal Main Campus. He has an elder sister, R Vaishali, who is also a chess player and the third female grandmaster in India.

On Thursday, February 1, Sitharaman gave the budget presentation in the Lok Sabha and highlighted the advancements made by Indian chess players in recent years. The minister of finance discussed the advancements made by Indian athletes in a number of sports over the course of the previous year in a number of major competitions.

Sitharaman applauded the Chennai-based grandmaster for his achievements in 2023 while discussing it. Sitharaman also brought up India's outstanding performance in Hangzhou, the People's Republic of China, during the 2023 Asian Games. According to the PIB, she stated, “The country received its highest ever medal tally in Asian games and Asian para games in 2023”.

The 18-year-old grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa was congratulated by the Finance Minister, who mentioned his accomplishment in 2023. The Indian Express quoted Sitharaman as saying, "The country is proud of youth scaling new heights in sports. Chess prodigy and our No. 1 ranked player R. Praggnanandhaa put up a stiff fight against the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen in 2023. Today, India has over 80 chess grandmasters compared to a little over 20 in 2010".

Sitharaman brought up Praggnanandhaa's outstanding performance at the 2023 FIDE World Cup, in which the Indian player faced off against World Champion Magnus Carlsen for the esteemed championship. He ultimately lost the decisive battle, though. Pragg is presently the top junior chess player, with a standard rating of 2747.
