Hi friends 🙂, welcome back to my new blog. Today's topic is Odysseus sets sail for home (part-1) , from The odyssey _ the epic tale of odysseus's journeys.
The Odyssey is the story of Odysseus , one of the heroes of the famous war of Troy. This war took place after Paris, a trojan prince , stole Helen , the most beautiful woman in the world , from her husband Menelaus and took her with him to Troy.
A thousand Greek ships sailed to Troy, carrying all the Greek heroes and warriors of that time, and these warriors against the Trojans in a war that lasted ten years. After Troy was burnt down and Helen was united with her husband , the Greeks set sail for their homes.
Odysseus , the king of Ithaca , was married to a good and beautiful woman named Penelope. They had a little son , Telemachus, and Odysseus loved both dearly. He had never wanted to leave them in the first place , but had to honour a promise he had made to Helens father at the time of her marriage. All the suitors had sworn to protect Helen and the husband's she chose.
After the war , one that lasted ten years, Odysseus and his men boarded their ships . His fleet of twelve ships made good progress at first, but a few days later was caught in a Strom. The ships were out of control, and Odysseus saw that though they passed close to Ithaca, the power full wind drove the ships away from his island.
It would be many years before odysseus's saw home again. The fleet was driven to the south where odysseus and his men came upon a beautiful island, which had a stream emptying into the sea and a vast beach. That night they slept on the beach beside their ships. The next day they discovered that the island was full of goats and hunted some with their spears and bows. With the prizes of their sport , they had a great feast.
Odysseus noticed another island a distance away that looked as if it was inhabited. He said to his men, I am going to explore that island and see who lives there. I shall take one ship and twelve of my bravest warriors.
So Odysseus and twelve of his men rowed across to the second island, while the rest stayed in the island of goats.
