The Hindu epic 'THE MAHABHARATA’ is one of the greatest epic. In this there is mystery about the great warrior Ashwatthama.
Ashwatthama, son of Guru Dronacharya, was one of the seve chiranjeevis and had received a boon of immortality from lord shiva. He also had a gemstone in his forehead from the birth due to the prayers of his ancestors which protect him from diseases, weapons and he can survive through hunger and any climating changes.
According to Mahabharata, Ashwatthama means ‘a scared voice of horse’ and when he was born he cried like horse.
Ashwatthama always had a superiority of others and wanted to rule a kingdom and ruled a part of Panjalam. It all started when the Pandavas and Kauravas had their education in Dronacharya's Gurukulam.
Ashwatthama became friends with the eldest son of Kauravas - Duryondhan, who was the next prince of Hastinapur.
The boon he has been proud of , soon turned into a bane when the battle of Kurukshetra was fought. It was a war between Pandavas and Kauravas to take their justice for the misbehavior happened to Queen Draupadi in the court of Hastinapur.
When the battle of kurukshetra was fought. Ashwattham sided with the Kauravas confidently and killed most of the people after Karna and Arjuna. Dronacharya was very loyal to the Dhritharastra king of Hastinapur, he also fought against Pandavas.
When Ashwatthama's father was killed by Dhrishtadyuman, he lost his patients and decides to avenge his father death by murdering the Pandavas.
So he attacked the Pandavas tent in the mid night and ended by killing Dhrishtadyuman and five sons of Pandavas in their sleep, assuming them as the warriors.
Pandavas confronted Ashwatthama where the latter unleashed his Brahmastra while Arjunan decided to use pashupatastra. Krishna was worried that the collision of two deadly weapons will lead to the destruction of the whole universe and asked them to take it back.
Arjunan did as krishna told but Ashwatthama did not learn to take it back so he did a cruel thing of pointing that weapon to Uttara's womb. That time Uttara was pregnant with Abhimanyu's son, the grandson of Arjunan.
While the weapon enter the Uttara's womb she felt a severe pain and the weapon started to kill the fetus. Krishna had the power to bring the baby back to life in her womb and saved Uttara.
Krishna got so angry and cursed Ashwatthama for his crime. He said that he will have to live till the end of the time in a poorest state with life full of sorrows and miseries. he will pray for death till the end of the time but never get it.
Krishna took away his gemstone and cursed him that the wound in your forehead will never be healed and the blood won't stop its bleeding. His bodied will be covered with ulcers and pus and will not be helped by anyone. Krishna also side that he has to live till the end of Kaliyug with the terrible leprosy and would not be offered food or shelter.
As it is shock to hear that several people have claimed to have seen him.
A doctor from Madhya Pradesh, who said that a patient with an unusual wound in his forehead came to him get treated. By trying all kind of medicines and stritching the wound up it never healed. His wound looled very horrific that 'his brain could get pulled from his forehead.
The famous pilot Baba also claimed to have seen Ashwatthama in the foothills of Himalayas.
