A fairy tale is an English term that refers to a genre of storytelling. Its German, Swedish, or Italian equivalents are Maerchen, Saga, and Fiaba, respectively. Only a small number of stories fall exclusively under the category of fairy tales. However, it can be distinguished from other folk tales such as hearsay, folktales (stories that are generally true accounts of narrated events)[1], and specialized justice stories, including stories about strange creatures. Fairy tales usually feature folkloric characters such as fairies, elves, mischievous fairies, friendly fairies, goblins or gnomes, and magic or magic. Often these stories consist of a series of imaginary events.

In a less technical context the term is also used to describe being blessed with unusual happiness, with aspects such as "fairytale endings" (a happy ending)[2] or "fairytale romance" (although not all fairy tales end happily ever after). Colloquially "fairy tale" or "fairy tale" can refer to any imaginative story.Fairy tales and hearsay may be mixed in cultures where monsters and witches are believed to be real. The narrative style of those hearsay stories can appear to the listener and teller to be based on historical fact. However, unlike hearsay and mythology these contain nothing but superstition-based aspects of religion and places, people and events; They are said to have happened in the past rather than in real time.[3]

Fairy tales are found in both oral and written forms. The history of fairy tales is difficult to know precisely because there can only be written forms. However, written sources indicate that fairy tales have been around for thousands of years. Although it is not recognized as a genre, Madame d'Aulnoy was the first to use the name fairy tales for them. Today's fairy tales are all derived from stories that existed centuries ago with slight variations in different cultures in many parts of the world.Fairy tales and works derived from them are still written today.

Old fairy tales were mostly written for adults and children.
