The American sociologist of the rise of sociology William G. Sumner (1840-1910) was the first to explain the importance of ethics and public policy while studying social norms. Folklore is common in all societies. Many activities of the members of the society are done according to the folklore. Even though the ethos is universal, according to the society, their nature is within. Folklore as a constituent element of culture can be explained in the following way. A person performs an action in a specific way. This method of action was considered appropriate and convenient by other members of the society that they imitate it and etiquette is created. When a type of behavior is imitated by many people in the society. Only then does that behavior take on the form of folklore. It is customary to use only the right hand for a meal. Writing from right to left is the etiquette. Also, the behavior of writing from left to right is also a folklore. Although the method of greeting is the same in all societies, the form varies from society to society. Thus the manner of dressing, the manner of writing, the manner of greeting were all examples of folklore.
Folklore is not created intentionally, but naturally and through imitation. There is no mechanism for social members to follow folklore. Most of the members of the society follow the ethos voluntarily. A person who does not behave according to etiquette deserves to be ridiculed and slandered by others. Forced obedience or forcing obedience is not very common in folklore. Why is it written in this way from right to left or from left to right? It is not possible to give definite and satisfactory answers to these questions. It is more accurate to say that these customs are observed as an integral part of the culture of a society or a group. Folklore is passed down from one generation to another due to cultural transition. It is very difficult to say when and how a folklore came into being. The majority of the members of the society behave according to the etiquette. This creates similarities in the social behavior of the members. It is possible for people who behave in the same way to get along with each other. As a result, social relations based on ethics remain more stable and sustainable. For all these reasons, the study of folklore, which is an integral part of culture, has gained importance in sociology.
