Meditation is something which isn't new to us but, dates back thousands of years across many different cultures, and often shares elements with spirituality. Mindfulness is another term associated with meditation several a times. Meditation is often used as an effective means of managing anxiety, stress, hypertension, insomnia and pain. It has remarkable healthy and stress-busting benefits that need nothing but to sit still, breathe deeply and focus on the present moment. This work of paying attention and concentration seems simple, but when you look at what it does to your mind and soul, it's quiet complex to understand. 

How meditation actually affect us?

Better focus and concentration

As it is a practice of focusing our attention and concentration, this actually improves our focus when we are not meditating, as well. But it's long lasting effect can be achieved by regularly practicing it.

Less stress

Stress is something very common nowadays and has detrimental effect on one's health but mindful meditation can help people perform well even under pressure and stressful environment. By helping to alleviate stress, blood pressure and heart conditions like coronary artery disease, heart failure, etc. can also be improved.

Better memory

One of the most important things meditation has been linked to is improving memory. Various researches has found that people who practice mindful meditation are able to recall things easily and more quickly than those who do not meditate.

Less anxiety and depression

The more you meditate, the less anxiety you have. It's because meditation helps in loosening the connections of particular pathway which triggers anxiety. You can see better result when you practice meditation. By reducing worry and rumination, it can help to improve depression and anxiety.

More creative you become

Yes, meditation can affect our creativity too. People who perform open-monitoring meditation come up with new ideas and perform better in the creative activities than others.

Manage emotions

Meditation can help with emotional regulation like managing negative emotions, such as anger and jealousy. Plus, it also helps to improve mood.

Manage sleep issues

Sleep issues like insomnia and sleep disturbances can be improved by increasing the body's relaxation response, reducing worry and rumination, and alleviating mood disorders.

Reduce obesity

Obesity and overeating can be controlled  by encouraging mindful eating and aiding weight loss.

As there are no side effects of meditation, so anyone can practice meditation. It'll only benefit you. So start practicing it today onwards.
