I had a professor once who was eccentric to say the least. He used to teach us finance and ask us theoretical questions that could have two answers, and if we gave one he'd tell us that it could always be the other. His way of teaching was so different, so amazing that we all longed for his approval.
On teacher's day, he was the one professor everyone wanted to wish, and we all thought that atleast today we would see him smile and say thank you like all the other professors but obviously he didn't. Instead he said something that would stick with me for a very long time. He said "I don't agree with this whole concept of celebrating someone for one day, it just signifies that we could not care about them for the rest of the time and just to be able to make it up to them we give them one day a year where we make them feel special."
That's how I have always felt about women's day. How all through the year people are about putting women down. You'll send us hate messages, you'll send us inappropriate comments, you'll point out our mistakes our ugliness and make us feel like we are not enough, like nothing we do is enough, like we should be grateful that we are even allowed to be who we are and do what we do. Like our achievements shouldn't be celebrated, like all we need to be is modest and shy and blushing all the time.
And if we don't then we just aren't feminine enough we aren't woman enough, that our choices need to be put though a microscope and if we don't fit into your idea of being a woman then we need to be punished.
And I'm not just talking about men doing this.
We will celebrate women, but we will never stop regulating them, controlling them, telling them that they need to be a certain way to even be called a woman. We might have come a long way but we still aren't there yet, and yes today may be about celebrating women but you'll notice how you want to celebrate only your selected few and not ALL women.
With this piece of writing, I just want to sorry you if I have hurt your feelings. Hoping to see you in future again.
.
Best wishes!
