Well almost everyone is familiar with body shaming. Most of the people have faced body shaming at least once in their lifetime or have witnessed around them happening with others. Aren't we?
Body shaming is the act of criticizing or humiliating someone for their body features and attributes. It can be in any form like fat shaming, skinny shaming, shaming for stunted height, or any other kind of bullying on the basis of body appearance. Body shaming happens even when someone is not comfortable in their own body and criticize oneself for not having a perfect body. This issue is not only confined to female but men also have issues with feeling body shame.
The act of body shaming causes an individual to feel shame about his or her own body features like body type, shape or size, height, stretch marks on body, hair on exposing body parts and many more. It often contributes to various psychological and physiological disorders. There are many people including celebrities who have to face mental health disorders like depression and anxiety because they don't find their body pleasing and attractive. People often get complex about their body when they make comparison to others. This lowers their self esteem and confidence. The fear of being judged surrounds them.
People often become obsessed with their body image because of media, television, movies and magazines that instigate people about perks of having attractive body. These platforms have set some norms to have an ideal body image with pefect figure and sharp body features.
It is okay to look fat or skinny or to have flat chest or heavy one, as long as one is happy and healthy. Never get confuse with body shaming and concern for a fit and healthy body. Also, we must develop an understanding of difference between being funny or bully. Stop making joke about body and body features!
We need to learn lesson on unconditional acceptance of being happy in our own body and skin. We must stop judging people based on their body appearance.
Love yourself the way you are as well as accept others for the same because everyone is beautiful as they are.
