You must have heard a lot about ayurveda. But do you have any idea about ayurvedic clock?

According to Ayurveda, there is an ‘energy clock’ which relates our levels of energy in sync with time. It believes that there is an optimal time of the day to perform different activities. It is linked to our body and mind relative to both the surrounding energy and state of our bodily humors that is ‘doshas’. If we go against this natural cycle, we definitely experience imbalance and deterioration of our health and wellness.

In ayurvedic clock, the day is divided into six 4-hour periods. Each period is is related to a particular dosha and it is repeated twice in 24 hours

  1. 6 AM - 10 AM/ 6 PM - 10 PM : Kapha time
  2. 10 AM - 2 PM/ 10 PM - 2 AM : Pitta time
  3. 2 AM - 6 AM/ 2 PM - 6 AM : Vata time

KAPHA TIME

Dawn and dusk are related to kapha time. Kapha dosha comprises of two elements : Water and Earth. Kapha time is perfect for self care rituals.

MORNING (6 AM - 10 AM)

  • Awake in Kapha time to draw life force into the body.
  •  Have light meal and gather energy for the day.
  • Good time to perform gentle warming exercises.

EVENING (6 PM - 10 PM)

  • Slow down and assimilate your energy.
  • Good time to spend with your family and loved ones.
  • Turn off all screens and enter in a rest and repair mode.

PITTA TIME

Peaks of the day and night (midday & midnight) are connected to pitta time. Pitta dosha include two elements : Fire and Water. Pitta time is the most productive part of the whole day.

MORNING (10 AM - 2 PM)

  • Our digestive fire starts to grow and it speaks at 12 PM.
  • Heaviest meal of the day should be taken in this period.
  • Best daylight hours for most physical and analytical tasks.

NIGHT (10 PM - 2 AM)

  • Our mind is in a subconscious state and we experience colourful dreams during these hours.
  • We should spend this time in bed in order to repair body by itself.

VATTA TIME

The transition between night and day and between dusk and dawn is connected to vatta time. Vatta dosha comprises of two elements : ether and air. This is the best time to assess ether and spiritual connections.

Morning (2AM - 6AM)

  • Our body starts to prepare itself for elimination process.
  • Brahma muhurta (96 minutes before sunrise) is best to wake up and to seek knowledge.
  • This time is auspicious and sacred and best to meditate and visualise.

AFTERNOON (2 PM - 6 PM)

  • Good for communicating and socializing.
  • Another good time for meditation and exercises.
