Alternate Places I Find Home In
Some things make so much room in your heart. A text asking if I am fine, a food delivery when I am having a bad day and a friend calling you to tell something exciting happening in their life. Life is indeed about the little thing and then ‘Home’, what makes you feel safe, secure and worth enjoying the life. Home is not where you are from, but it is where you belong. Some of us travel the world to find it. Others, find it in various places like I found. These are :
- Long hugs and sweaty palms after holding someone's hand tight. Sometimes it's better to be in someone's embrace when you don't feel safe in your own.
- Fix you by Coldplay. The serene words pouring hope in my soul as a wait for the lights to guide me home. I would happily equate peace with music.
- The smell of books. I don't read anymore but whenever I open a book, it reminds me of my younger self. I don't recognise myself anymore.
- The chai stall just outside my hostel. I never really spoke to the chai wale bhaiya, but he would greet me with a smile and give me my “regular” without even asking for it.
- Watching Netflix, with some cold pizza in the comfiest clothes as I sit on the massy floor. It might be downright disgusting, but I find comfort in imperfection.
- My Pinterest feed. From quotes to all my favourite fashion trends, I try to find pieces of myself in random pins.
- Silence there is just something about silence I have fun called in a corner and just try to go blank and not be anything.
- The night sky, stars and the moon. The moon reminds me that we all have phases when we just want to disappear and hide but we gradually grow to feel whole again.
- Fairy lights. I am forever a sucker for fairy lights and I put pictures of people and memories on my soft board with fairy lights on them. They are just a bittersweet reminder of happier moments and who I was with them.
- Jam packed roads. Amidst the mayhem of the city, the crowd, the busy life, I find calm in the chaos.
