We live in the age of science. We live,move, and think by science. Science has changed our lives. We have conquered air,time and space with the help of scientific inventions. Forces of nature are now at our command. We now possess power fit for gods.

Science has armed man with inventions which are no less than miracles and the greatest of these inventions is electricity. It is the wonder of wonders. It cooks,washes,lights and warms. It is the hand-maid of all that we do in our homes. It is also used as a motive force in factories. The electric cranes lift heavy loads. The fans, the air-conditioners,the refrigerators all work because there is electricity.

Science is indeed a blessing. The railways, the motor car and the aeroplane provide us with a swift means communication and travel. We can now travel from place to place in a very short time. The conquest of space is another feather in the cap of man.

Then there is the telegraph, the telephone and the wireless. A wonderful new invention called cellular phones helps us to make and receives calls from almost anywhere. The radio has made the dull evenings at home bright. The television, the latest development of wireless telegraphy, enables people to see the pictures as well as hear the speaker.

Science has revolutionised our means of transport. We do not use the bullock carts or the carriages. They are too slow a meas of transport for a man of the twenty first century. We have bicycles, motor cars, trains, ships and aeroplanes and they are all the gifts of science. Science has reduce the distance between one country and another. People residing at distant places are our next door neighbours. We can talk, meet or converse with them whenever we desire.

Science has worked wonders in the field of medicine and surgery. It has helped man in his fight against diseases. Diseases like plague, small pox, cholera, typhoid, etc have been brought under control. Anaesthesia helps man not feel the pain during operation.

 Scientific inventions have not all been for our good. Science has given many deadly weapons of good. The long range missiles, poisonous gases, atom bombs and many other destructive weapons have made the life of man insecure. Another war and the whole world will be destroyed in minutes. In short, science is a mixed blessing.
