Novel Review of "The girl in room 105"

Chetan Bhagat is one of India’s renowned contemporary writer. His novels have received fame and have been made into Bollywood movies too. He is also a popular motivational speaker and has spoken at more than 300 organizations in 50 cities around the world.

The story starts off with the Author, Chetan Bhagat himself narrating his story as he travels by plane where he meets a man named Keshav Rajpurohit who is seated beside him. Keshav works as a tutor at a coaching institution.Keshav then starts narrating him a story, a story about his ex lover. Keshav narrates the fact that his girlfriend left him, even after 3 years despite their breakup he isn't able to forget her and he still loves her. On the day of his ex girlfriend’s birthday, Keshav receives a text from his ex-girlfriend asking him to meet her in her hostel room just like the way he used to sneak in her hostel room during their college days. With the excitement of meeting the love of his life, Keshav manages to sneak up into his ex-girlfriends room to but is shocked out of his wits to find his girlfriend Zara Lone dead.

The police is called and frantic search for the murderer is set. The police however have caught the watchman with him being charged as the murderer, but Keshav is still unsure whether it was the watchman who did it. Keshav and his friend Saurab set up on a wild goose chase to find the murderer. There are a number of names that are being tossed in this case, firstly the watchman who is allegedly arrested, then there is the PhD guide of Zara, Mr. Saxena who is seen to have been taken a liking a Zara and is believed to propositioned her. In the chase to catch the murderer, Keshav and Saurab wind up all the way to Kashmir, since Zara too was a Kashmiri . In Kashmir the duo go to meet Zara’s stepbrother Sikander, whom Zara was quiet close to and who is believed to have connections with Tehreek-e-Jihad, a separatist group in Kashmir that worked to liberate Kashmir from India. Keshav thinks that Sikander is responsible for Zara’s death as Sikander is involved in shady business but when the duo reach Kashmir, many more secrets are unveiled that completely change the plot of the murder case. What happens at Kashmir? And who is the one who killed Zara Lone?

The concept and the plot of the novel are quite interesting. The author is consistent in keeping the thrill and suspense element in the novel. The language however used it quite basic and it is ideally suitable for people of all ages to read it.
