The "God Sun" has been revered by virtually all civilizations, but in Bihar, Chhath Puja is the only time when the setting sun and the rising sun are both venerated.

Chhath Puja is observed on the sixth day of Kartik month, as per the Hindu calendar. A bathing celebration called Chhath Puja, also known as Surya Shashti, is followed by a four-day fast and period of ritual cleanliness.

Chhath Puja is a stringent, four-day religious celebration. Taking a dip in the sacred river or other body of water is a part of the first day of the Chhath Puja. The Ganges water is often brought by people to their houses for specific rites and offerings. On this day, homes are scrubbed completely. The second day of Chhath, otherwise called Kharna, includes fans noticing a day long quick, which is broken in the late night subsequent to playing out the love of Mother Earth. The contributions to the God incorporate rice pudding (kheer) and natural products, which is disseminated among relatives and companions. The third day of Chhath goes in the readiness of the prasad (contributions) for the night contributions, otherwise called Sanjhiya Arghya.

At night, enormous quantities of fans assemble on the banks of streams and make contributions (Arghya) to the sunset. The society tunes are played showing the way of life and history of Bihar. The evening of the third day observes a bright occasion known as Kosi. A covering is produced using sugarcane sticks and lit earthen lights are put inside the shelter alongside crates loaded up with prasad. On the fourth and last day of Chhath, relatives and companions go to the banks of streams before dawn and making contributions (Arghya) to the rising sun. After this custom, lovers break their quick and convey Prasad to neighbors and family members.

As indicated by another legend, Lord Priyavrat, child of First Manu Swayambhu, was extremely miserable in light of the fact that he had no youngsters. Maharishi Kashyap requested that he do a yajna. As indicated by Maharishis orders, he played out a yajna for a child. After this, Sovereign Malini brought forth a child, yet sadly the child was conceived dead. The ruler and his family were exceptionally miserable along these lines. Then Mata Shashthi uncovered herself overhead. At the point when the ruler appealed to her, she talked, saying: "I'm Chhathi Maiya the 6th type of Devi Parvati. I safeguard every one of the offspring of the world and give the favors of youngsters to every childless parent." After this, the Goddess favored the dormant kid with her hands, so he showed signs of life. The ruler was exceptionally appreciative for the beauty of the Goddess and he adored the goddess Shashthi Devi. It is accepted that after this puja, this celebration turned into an overall festival.
