Snow Trek To Malana Village

I hope you have gone through my last blog about our ride to Malana.

So, this was our second day. We (7 friends) woke up early all excited for the trek. It snowed the whole night. It was all white every where.

We had our breakfast and got ready for the trek.

We started off with the trek. The terrain was full of snow which made walking a bit difficult. As soon as we start the trek we need to descend the hill (any one who has been on this trek can understand). Descending in snow was very difficult. Many of us slipped due to snow but thankfully we were unhurt.

On further trekking of about 40 mins, we found a shop. We thought of taking some rest. We had our tea and Maggi (mandatory in the hills :P) there. At this moment the views were amazing. We stopped there for some time to enjoy the beauty. The shop owner was busy clearing the snow from the surrounding with a shovel. It seemed to be a very tough task. He was doing it all himself.

We randomly asked the shop owner about the village to gain some knowledge about the lifestyle of the people there. He told many things about the village. He also told us to take care after reaching the village as we should not touch them as they assume themselves as superior to us (it is believed that they are the descendants of greek soldiers of Alexander's army. As the legend goes, some soldiers took refuge in this remote land after Alexander left the country and later settled there permanently).

We started to trek again and reached the village after some time.

The place seems to be cut off from rest of the world. It was a very beautiful village. All the houses were made out of wood. By the time we reached, it was afternoon and local people were gathered and preparing their meal in a big vessel. They were singing in local language and were very happy.

Mainly their source of income is marijuana farming and selling.

The children there were saying ‘’hame choona mat'' means do not touch us. Though we knew it and we were standing far away and not touching them. We were surprised as how they were taught to say so when they see a tourist.

After exploring the beautiful place we started trek back to our hotel as we need to get back before dark.
