Snow Ride To Malana

So, we 7 friends from Delhi wanting to visit the Himalayas by our own Royal Enfields. It was the month of August 2017.

The plan to ride the Himalayas was instant. We decided to hit the Himalayas a day before our journey.

After so much of discussions, we decided to do the Malana ride.

We packed our bags, took tools for our bikes which included clutch wire, extra tubes for both wheels, a foot pump, engine oil, chain lubes etc. We were so excited for this ride.

So, we started for Malana at around 5 am in the morning. The ride was pretty good till lower himalayas when suddenly one of our bike got punctured.

We did not get any repair shops near by to get the tyre repaired. We had to hire a ‘chotta haati’ to load and carry up to the mechanic. The ‘chotta haati’ guy took approx. 500 bucks for 3 kms ( the mechanic was around 3kms away).

We got it repaired and it was around 3 pm in the evening and while it was repaired we got our lunch done and we again started for our ride to Malana.

The weather suddenly started to change. Some locals told it will snow in the upper region.

When we reached near to Malana we were warned by the locals not to take the bikes any further (towards malana) as it was snowing heavily. We took a chance and headed towards our destination.

At this moment it was not snowing very heavily. We kept on continuing.

When the total distance to reach  Malana was around 5 kms, the snowfall was so heavy that it became very difficult to ride. It was a proper snowstorm ❄️now

Our first bike was literally struggling and cutting the snow to make road. Luckily a local vehicle was moving in front of us. We followed the path of that vehicle and this this it was much better to ride. We somehow managed to reach our hotel before dark

The ride upto malana was very tiring. We were all wet due to snowfall. Shoes were all wet but it was one kind of ride which we never experienced.

It was very cold. Heaters were on in the hotel rooms. We slept early after discussing for the next day.

Next day we decided to trek to Malana.

Malana trek experience will be posted in next blog 🙂
