“If there is a religion that can unite the whole world it is called Cinema.”

We are in a country where it is already  Known as a Religion. 

It is not an easy feat to achieve especially if you are in a country of million religions and sects.

The Indian cinema is started off as an experiment and it is still lit.

I will not going to touch the greats like,

The legendary Dada Saheb Phalke, The Harishchandra, Alam aara ,Kisaan kanya and the one and only Satyajit ray, Pather Panchali, Bhanu Athaya.

And the regulars like lagaan, Slumdog millionaire , Jallikkattu and all that.

What I want to talk about is Us, The Audience..

The Most Important part of Cinema.

The Monkey and The Master :

“I Think cinema, movies and magic have always been closely associated. The very earliest people who made films were Magicians ”- Francis ford coppola.

The Movie is born as an art form just like the others, to entertain.

It is to serve the viewer and thus retain them, a mere business transaction.

But now its totally a different story:

Storm in a Coffee cup :

The quiet and calm stream of cinema stormed by extremist art ideology which forces audience to think and suffer ;

In the words of cinema greats like 

Alfred Hitchcock : "Always make the audience suffer as much as possible"

Jean luc Godard : "At cinema, we do not think we are the thought."

This transformation leads to Introduction of several movie making procedures which later become genres themselves(neo noir) or the definitions of movies(parallel cinema).

This gives us a greatest genre specific and finest movie makers like Alfred Hitchcock(neo noir, Horror), Andrei Tarkovsky (art house) ,Francis ford coppola ("The God father" of Italian gangster dramas), Stanley Kubrick (sci-fi) and The Akira kurosawa(Action, drama)

Now we all know that the cinema is a fascinating art form with almost no boundaries…it is so vast that it has its own study, industry and science to evolve… 

More Heads, More brains : 

Keep this in mind , Cinema is way a head of any trend we call future…

For Instance, The things they showed in the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey” is not yet happened and that movie is from 1968,

Its not about an alien, not space wars but about an AI based space ship and a single astronaut.

Due to its roots in multiple disciplines like culture, science and art; Cinema started thinking.

“A Medusa with science, art ,culture and fame as some of its faces.”

Having multiple heads(Industries) to feed…it needs to be evolved and transformed continuously in almost all directions also known as “Dendritic Transformation”.

This transformation not happened out of the blue, It took decades and we can see its imprint(thousands of art house classics around the world from directors like Satyajit ray ,Akira kurosawa ,Andrei Tarkovsky, Alfred Hitchcock) on each decade.

Now the industry is way ahead of the world and genius is dominated by cinema, since the audience is very busy in chasing life and have no space for art..

"Now The Monkey is ready to dance but The Master is “Busy”. 

Now, in the eyes of many people cinema becomes just an entertainment and nothing more than that.

This is a threat to creative world and may leads to artless future..
