Why Youtube Videos And College Lectures Are Different?

Have you ever wondered why am I paying for a course in college when some random person on YouTube makes me understand some concepts that I could never try understanding, neither from a book published by a well known author nor by the lectures of my professor? Here are some details left unnoticed by people that are responsible for your mind paving way to YouTube content over college lectures.

Presentation Matters

Lets start with the presentation. Assume an average YouTube video containing our desired content lasts for 20 minutes. What do you think are the processes that go beyond what we see in those 20 minutes. In the case of YouTube videos, the person has the liberty to take as much time as possible to create the content in an intriguing manner whereas our college professors fall prey to the hectic design of the syllabus and its time period and hence find it difficult to make learning more engaging.

Secondly, facing 50-100 people in a classroom and being able to clarify the concepts to students on a live platform requires greater skill and patience, but Youtubers have the liberty to record and edit what they have told and review it multiple times and then publish the edited content which garners significant views.

Thirdly, the manner in which the content is brought to you as a final video product on YouTube differs from what you perceive in the classroom. There is always an element of risk and surprise when a new topic is introduced to you and the factor for risk multiplies when the lecture is not on a topic that you would prefer listening to. Our mind finds it easier to shift the focus to our friends and to the scenery outside the classroom. This point is exclusive only to offline classes and not online wherein your body feels the need to relax and move to a different position and a need for a break when the topic taught fails to uplift your interest and listening levels. In the case of YouTube videos, our only focus is on the topic as we know the need to understand it and hence refrain from shifting our focus from the person on our screen.

Friends

Lastly, it all comes to our attitude of being confident about the availability of the same content taught in the classroom on YouTube. We deliberately change the attention pattern and treat the college lectures as a criteria for marking the attendance rather than focusing on what is being taught. There are a significant number of qualified professors in established institutions of our country who have the knowledge of the concept but fall short in the manner in which they try to explain and this issue is what proves to be advantageous for YouTubers who try to make us understand the concept in a simple and intriguing manner.
