Everyone here is aware about the condition of our Indian education system. The only part of school life we enjoy is playschool. Ever wondered why? well because during that period a child gets to enhance his/her basic skills and become social and all humans are social animals whose one of the basic needs is interaction. After that all kids are drowned in a pool of knowledge which is only used to fill notebooks and answer sheets.
Even though there are some teachers who point out the insignificance of marks, we all know how it feels when we reach home with a 92% and our parents say, βSharmaji's son got a 97% why did you get so lessβ? Although this year due to the pandemic we did not have board examinations, but we all are aware of the aunties of our neighborhood who are way more eager than the student itself to know the marks and pass critical comments. At the end of the day all kids are judged on the basis of their marks be it by the society or for admissions into higher education institutes.
Today, a student who has more application skills and sense of understanding is left behind in the race by another student who has skills of rote learning and mugging up. We all know the results of this are no different from that between Rancho and Silencer(3 Idiots movie). That movie was although showed that Rancho scored well without rote learning but in reality our teachers prefer nothing other than the book's language. What is even more necessary to know is that all students cannot have the same aptitude or talent in the same field. Today, I may not aptitude for Science but that doesn't mean I am any less intelligent.
Most of us might have seen the move Taare Zameen Par where the little Ishaan Awasthi is a genius artist, but he couldn't understand his studies. Yet, he had a vivid imagination and a great understanding of the world which was suppressed because of the society's need for grades. With changing times, we need to change our mind set as well. Marks have never defined a person's intelligence, from Einstein to Akshay Kumar.
India has more schools than China but lets not forget that quality matters more than quantity. However, there is a ray hope with the introduction of the New Education Policy.
