Weird Things Anxiety Makes Us Do...

"Anxiety is like being in the Twilight zone."

Anxiety is like perpetually hearing the boss music🎶 🎵🎷🎺🎸 but never seeing the threat. The best definition I have…..

My Anxiety disorder comes in many shapes and forms, manifesting in both mental & physical discomforts. I have now become a pro at keeping the lid on all my molten crazy--- Anxiety Monster 😈 . But every once in a while the monster goes “psych!"

In an effort to help others not feel less alone, here are some of the very strange and sometimes funny things I've done in response to my Anxiety.

  1. Checking and re-checking my social media accounts and email 📲💻to make sure I didn’t inadvertently send someone something embarrassing, like my old body checking photos or a virus link that somehow got on my phone.
  2. My face twitches. 🐹 A lot. I also have an ugly vein running along my temple that pokes out when I’m upset or start to get worked up about anything.
  3. I pee a lot. I also shake. So I’m essentially the human version of one of those tiny dogs 🐶that pee themselves when they get too excited. (No, I’ve never actually pi…….. myself.)
  4. Imagine the worst in every scenario. Feeling like I'm the only unlucky pigeon on this planet Earth🪐 .
  5. Worried with words of concern. Easily come to the conclusion just by hearing words like ‘OH’, ‘REALLY’, ‘IF’😲 etc. etc., possibly for eg. sentence is- “OH Mom is out of the hospital”.
  6. Blame myself when others don't reply messages. 📱Cooking stories myself that they have felt bad about the conversation we had last evening.
  7. Reject invitations even if I want to go out. Feels as if I'm the least required person 😒to join my friends or family and may be I'm feeling sick in my head.
  8. Could not forgive myself for the mistake done in the office. I keep on webbing that mistake several square times as if I'm gonna put it on my wall's corner as a showpiece 🎍for a life time.
  9. A constant ringing in my ears. It is called 'Tinnitus' I guess. It tend to amplify minor physical issues that may be part of digestion, your menstrual cycle, or your body fighting a cold, constantly buzzing🔨  your ears .
  10. Feeling disconnected from your body. 👩‍🚀Feels like the external world is not real, as if it is a movie playing in the background. I've experienced these symptoms in the past, and it's never been the fun kind of trippy.                                                                                                                              If I let myself I could keep adding to this list for hours. If anyone who struggles with anxiety reads this, please feel free to share your own quirks in either the comment section or in an article of your own. I would love to read them — these things are deeply fascinating and not only is sharing them educational for others, but its therapeutic for the self.

Because we aren’t alone, and that’s a wonderful thing to learn.
