"Fungi" -what are they??? Are they microscopic or what ?
So ,fungi are basically hetrotrophic non green plants as it lacks chlorophyll a and due to hetrotrophic in nature it depends on ther for food ,they can't prepare there own food .
Fungi also form symbiotic association with algae normally known as-"lichen".
LICHENS
Fungi may be unicellular or multicellular in nature .unicellular fungi example is-yeast which is mainly used in beverages nd bread making industries etc ,and multicellular fungi example is-penicillium etc.(it is a type of fungi throug which a antibiotic "penicilli was discovered by Alexander Fleming).
Based on the physical and internal features , fungi are further devided into 4 main types:-
๐ด1.phycomycetes
๐ด2.Ascomycetes
๐ด3.Basidiomycetes
๐ด4.Duetroycetes
๐๐ด1.phycomycetes- these are basically a type of fungi which are mainly found in Rhizopus ,Mucor,Aspergillus .
๐๐ด2.Ascomycetes -these are basically a type of fungi which are normally known as -"sac fungi".There mycelium is septate and branched and it includes mostly multicellular fungi like-"pencillium โ through which โpenicillinโa antibiotic which is discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928,and it also includes unicellular fungi like" yeastโ which is mainly used in beverages nd in bakers industry .Asexual spores of this fungi are condiospores nd sexual spores are normally known as โascosporesโ which are produced endogenous in sac like structure called โasciโ
Som examples are- Aspergillus, claviceps and neurospora etc.
๐๐ด3.Basidiomycetes- These are the type of fungi which is mainly known as โbracket fungi " or " puff balls โ there mycelium is septate and branched ,asexual spores are not found but vegetative reproduction occur by fragmentation.
Sex organs are mainly absent in this fungi and dikaryon phase is found which give rise to form basidium. Some examples are - Agaricus, ustilago and puccinia.
MUSHROOMS
๐๐ด4.Duetroycetes- These are basically a type of fungi which are mainly known as "Imperfect fungi" as in this only asexual or vegetative phase is known. Mycelium is septate and branched and there asexual spores are -"conidia "some examples are -Alternia,Colletotricum and Trichoderma etc.
๐๐ดSome fungi may be used as food like -mushroos morel and trufflescommonly known as-edible fungi) and some are poisonous in nature like - Death Cap (Amnita phalloides).so away from such fungus.
These different types of fungi are considered or we can say included in the kingdom Fungi of 5 kingdom classification which is mainly given by R.H Whittaker in 1869
