The Flying Sikh of our country loses his battle as he passed away. After a month of battling COVID-19, legendary sprinter Milkha Singh passed away on Friday, 18 June, at the age of 91. He breathed his last in Chandigarh’s Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, where he was receiving treatment after being exposed to the virus on 19 May.

The Flying Sikh united the country as he broke barriers and created records to become the first Indian to reach the level of an athletics event at the Olympics

The First Indian Athlete to win an individual athletics gold at the commonwealth games

JOURNEY

A 16-year-old Mika Singh watched his family get murdered in Pakistan during the partition

If I hadn't run. I would have been murdered. I wore the same blood-spattered clothes for tendays

Homeless in India Mlkha briefly served time in Tihar Jail turned to a life of stealing and reportedly even considered becoming a dacoit. A job in the army helped the legend discover his life's calling as he becomes the country's most celebrated runner winning gold medals in the 200m and 400m events. At the 1958 ancient games and in the 400m event. At the 1958 CWG, he turned to Pakistan in 1960 after being persuaded by Pandit Nehru to compete against his greatest rival Abdul Khaliq

I have cried only 5 times in my life...it bought tears to my eyes-though of happiness when I won the race in Pakistan in 1960 against Abdul Khaliq

It was in Pakistan that general Ayub khan gave him the title of FLYING SIKH. Despite his many success, it was his one near miss that remains one of Milkha's most famous race

The 1960 Rome Olympics

Milka was one of the favourites to win gold in the 400m final. But one error in judgement cost him a place on the podium

I knew what my fatal error was. after running perilously fast in lane five, I slowed down at 250m and could not cover that lost ground after that

                                                                                    -Milka Singh

THe thought that I lost a medal in the Olympics still haunts me. It was the biggest blunder of my sports career

Milkha went on to win two or more Asian games medal. His national records remain untouched for over four decades and his legacy's continue

                MILKHA SINGH INDIA'S “FLYING SIKH”

He was an inspiration to millions he made everyone proud MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE

WE MISS YOU MILKHA SINGH….!
