The Pandya---

The kings of Pandya were reason for the end of chola's golden period. 

These Pandya and their people were the ancient people in the history of Tamils. In the history of India or Tamil Nadu there was bigger landmass named Kumari kandam and these Pandya seemed to ruled this place.

Once Megasthenes, Ancient Greek ethnographer and explorer travelled to India and he spoke about he this era boastfully. When talking about them history and mythology do mix and its so ancient that it is hard to differentiate between them and very own example is Meenakshi Temple, Madurai. In Indian Ancient Epic ( Mahabharata ) there was a reference about this pandya dynasty and they seemed to have fought and supported the pandavas. In their history there were legendary queens, princess and warrior queens could be said and there were places only queens have ruled in their period and ( allirani, was queen have seemed to have ruled northern srilanka )

so far all these facts could be said as legends or myth and from now on there is going to be historical facts…!

Pandya were ancients ones and cholas took the rule defeating pandyas and again pandya came to power almost after 3 centuries.

Marco Polo, Venetian explorer and merchant who travelled through Asia said about pandyas and their life style. he mentions that the richest dynasty that he has witnessed in his life is Pandian Dynasty and the reason said is muthu ( pearl ). the reason pearl is pandyas had a great sea trade in their period located near tuthukudi. those people at that time have worshipped OX and respected them. he also mentions that people there use only right hand for eating and they do follow a good hygienic life. people there don't have the habit of consuming alcohol and if people found with this habit are not respected in the society. they believed in black and everyone there were seemed to happy if their child born was with black skin and the color white was not liked by any and the astrologers and the people there believed white to be the color of ghost and unwantedness.

On the later period of chola dynasty, the later kings were not seemed to be that strong as rajaraja cholan was and with this weakness, pandya got tied up with cheras and other kings and fought them and got to their power.
